The river crossing went wrong for sure. But bugger me, the "recovery" was 10 times worse!!! Could have connected the snatch strap to the patrol and taken up the additional slack while they where connecting it to the stricken vehicle!!! Beats me Didn't seem to be any cohesion between the guys in the water and the guys on the bank.
The guys in the water, pretty much put their lives on the line, hope it was their car and not somebody else's?

Why didnt they  tie it off to the trees in front of it to secure it . then they could of  winched it forwards through a snatch block tied to the tree from the truck on the opposite side  and out of the water ...

Owning all the gear in the world doesn't mean you have any idea on how to use it. As you know, Inskip Point is a classic example of clueless adventurers with all the gear, and no idea ;D

(Anyone with half of an idea wouldn't be in the creek in the first place)
With enough horse power, sheer ignorance and a total lack of respect for your vehicle, you'll get through....

That's what I thought would have been the easiest and safest thing to do.

There was enough of them and vehicles.
with a couple of chainsaws and a shovel or two they could have constructed a log bridge to cross the small stream.
then the dill in the Cruiser could have driven back across the bridge and rejoined the group.
Really begs the question, why did he even try.

Just looking at the speed of the water flowing should have been enough to question crossing it, i'm guessing it filled with water being nearly on its side like it was - expensive mistake.

I reckon that most winches would have struggled against that water pulling that car against it and up out the other embankment.

I would like to disagree Bruce.
It was in relatively calmer water on the far side.
Would have gone up onto the far side easier than being pulled back into the fast water.
You did see the bloke against the bank, pinned in place like an insect by the water.
All of that aside.
If it's too fast to walk, you are insane to try and drive it.

If you can't walk it, don't drive it...

Exactly! If it's "FLOODED FORGET IT"

Lucky the Patrol didn't get dragged in with it if connected and sitting on a muddy track, no vehicle is worth risking a life for.

dunno about the if it's flooded forget it message myself...I've driven bonnet deep flood water on several occasions and it's never been an issue, the difference being i drove through backed up flood waters that wasn't fast flowing like it was in that video. The, if you can't walk it then don't drive it message is a better one IMHO.

I agree with you rumpig, some situations are more doable than others, it just depends on the pace of the water. We water crossings regularly during storm season, some we've been through that's up the windscreen, some we've had to wait out that's only at the top of the wheels.
That kind of crossing only wanks would pull on in my opinion
