Flinders Ranges camping advice
« on: September 05, 2016, 09:08:50 PM »
Hi All, just looking for some advice on camping in the flinders. Last year the kids and I camped in one of the bush camping sites at willow springs - perfect! The best of both worlds, secluded camping with ammenities very close.

We want to have a similar experience this year, however, willow springs is booked out.

Looking at the Rawnsley Park unpowered bush camping now - for those that have visited here, are these sites secluded like willow springs? We certainly don't mind a drive to the bathroom for a shower, are there sites well away from the ammenities block that are nice and private?

Appreciate any advice you may have!

Cheers

Kerky

Rawnsley Park is excellent, you can be as far  away or as close to the action as you want. Couple of things you need to be aware of. There is virtualy NO mobile service and strictly NO firewood collection on the property.

From my own experience I would suggest you take a bow saw or an electric chainsaw, >:D neither of which can be heard from a resonable distance

Also booze and diesel is cheaper there than at Hawker   ;D  and it's dog frendly too

Brilliant xcvator, thank you.

Wood all sorted, I have heaps of space to load some in the camper.

We are going to have a crack at sky trek again, at the top of the peaks we should get some service up there at least.

Thanks for the feedback mate

Cheers

We were there a few years ago and there was very limited virgin mobile service outside the main amenities block near the communal kitchen/lounge.

We had Telstra coverage a Wilpena Pound.

We actually enjoyed the camping there more than RP, mainly because the ground was a bit more forgiving and we were in tents! A camper at Rawnsley would be a better experience.

If you are after space and some privacy then it would be a better pick of the two as well I'd say.

Argadells and Warraweena are two properties to consider for camping, warraweena has a track to Nucaleena mine called the copper track off memory, a really great drive and an interesting way to move around the flinders and avoid the main roads

google them both, they have web sites

We recently spent 10 nights at Rawnsley Park.... travel auction job so we went for a powered site but were away from the 'couple of night' travellers and yet close enough to the amenities.  Excellent spot.   Went for lots of walks down through the bush camp area and yes the camp sites are well away from each other.  Choose your own!  Don't be too quick with the choice because there are some great spots a little further in...and look right and left as you go because some are set off the tracks a little!!!
Enjoy.

Hell yeah and 10mm diameter, anything smaller and forget it. If taking a camper get some spreader poles to limit the amount of pegs you need.
