We moved into a house that had a resonably new F&P dish drawer. While it washed things ok was a complete pain in the bum to stack and seemed to be forever in need of unstacking or stacking. Each drawer was just a bit small for us meaning we were getting nearly two loads each day. If you dropped something down the bottom, like a spoon the whole lot has to come out to dig it out or you can't wash. Our dinner plates would only fit on one side of the drawer, so limited how you could stack stuff in it, pots and pans were hard to fit. The kids were forever loading up the wrong one, or complaining there was no clean dishes becuase they looked in the wrong one. Absolutely hated it.

Despite it being an expensive machine I pulled it out, sold it and installed a Miele. Soo much easier to pack. Now we do about 5-6 loads per week, not 12-14. It has had a fault that took a couple of weeks to fix due to a technician not reading his job sheet properly, but I suspect it was related to a water outage/ surge and not the machine.

Our last house had an Electrolux that worked well except for a heater element fault, but I prefer the Miele we have now.

Our Asko only lasted 3 years (main control board died, approx $400 to fix).  Wouldn't go there again!

Like anything all dishwashers have their pros and cons. When I was an Asko tech. there were a few problems with certian models, mostly main boards or capacitors. These were covered under warranty...until warranty expired then it was up to the customer to buy new or reconditioned boards(with the same fault). Pretty sure most brands have problems similar to this, check reviews of particular models before buying. Our current house has a LG twin draw installed and the missus loves it, don't have to wait till whole dishwasher is full to do a load etc. Asko definately washes better than the LG.

I would go a Miele, we have had less call backs on them in all the years I have been building multi level apartments, had one in my last place and when the one dies in our place it will be a Miele

one other thing to consider is what brands the local service agents look after...

you may end up buying a brand that can't be serviced locally...

we just got a new F&P and that was after having another F&P for over 10 years with one repaired issue.

My current Fisher & Paykel is going great after 14 years. Prior dishwasher at old place was F&P with no problems. Good brand I recommend.

As mentioned in our area F&P service agents are very good.

We bought an Omega unit about 7 years ago, and it lasted less than 2 years.
Replaced it with another Omega, which also lasted less than 2 years.
Third Omega again less than 2 years.
Donated a new Omega to a sister in law, lasted 14 months.
Only reason we kept using Omega was we got them through work at a price less than a meat pie.
Spent the big dollars for a Miele but that was a piece of krap, leaking and then not working at all, and we returned it after a few weeks.
We have now had an Ariston for 12 months and it works well.
Although they seem to work pretty well until they die I would advise to avoid Omega unless you get them free and don't mind the replacement labour.

Very interested to know which model you have and any more thoughts on your Ariston. I really am leaning towards them. Sick of paying big bucks thinking you are getting a better product, yet it still Shits itself the same as a cheapy would.
Cheers, Mike.

We had an ASKO which died at about 7 years of age.  Replaced it with an Ariston.   HATED it from the day it was installed.  The ASKO was superior IMO.  The ASKO was like the Tardis.  You could fit so much in and could move racks etc around.  The Ariston doesn't come close.

My time again with the choice of these two.  ASKO without a doubt.

All electrical appliances we get extended warranty to 5 years.

We had an Asco too. Made in Europe somewhere.

It came with the house when we purchased it.

Aparrantly replacement cost in vicinity of $2000

We said fk that. Purchased an LG for $800.

I can't see the difference between a $2000 and an $800 dishwasher.

i had to buy a dishwasher last year
found the one i got off an ebay seller as a scratch and dent unit but brand new
got it for $50.00  and yeah it's still going

had a look last night and it's a SMEG
i  had some issues with the buttons
two come out of their holders but was able to fix them myself  ( two of the three to start the machine)
if i had paid full price for it that would have peed me off a bit

two things i don't like about it
when it finishes its wash the unit stays on in a standby mode
and the layout of the bottom rack not 100% suitable for us

because of the button issue  i would be looking at other brands next time around
hopefully i find another $1200 unit for $50

Except they're a PITA to deal with on a commercial level. Order via HN commercial and the like and then Miele contact us direct for immediate payment before they'll commit to delivery dates. No 30 day accounts.
Its a privilege for you to use them.

I always try to respec them where I can.

I do agree they have a very good product.

If our 15 year old Bosch ever dies I'll probably go Fisher & Paykel.

Had a Westinghouse for 19 yrs and have just replaced with a Bosch. Quality isn't what it used to be !! Even with a Bosch, they are made in 3 different countries.......Poland for the cheap ones, Spain for the middle of the range and Germany for top of the range.

If you don't like paying $1000 plus for a dishwasher, get a cheapy and hope it lasts.

I'm happy to spend the money. Our Bosch cost us 15 hunj and was German made and still Shit itself. I'm just sick of paying big dollars for perceived quality only to find out it's no better than the cheap stuff.

We had the same with ours, except it was only $170 for the board, but then the board blew again 6 months later.. Ripped it out and replaced it with a Miele, no problems since. That was about 4 years ago.

As I said, quality isn't what it used to be. Everything now built to a price. Google dishwashers......they all have their issues....hopefully only under warranty.

I wanted to keep under $1000, so the "best" I could find was Bosch, so I hope it lasts 1/2 as long as the old good quality Westinghouse I had for 19 yrs !
