Is there Free Camping around Cooktown.
« on: July 25, 2016, 12:40:47 PM »
Hi all,
We are off to the Cape in 2017 (exactly 12 months away). Just hoping someone might know of a great place to stay (preferably free) near Cooktown. My bro-in-law has a family of 8 (with landcruiser) and they find it hard to keep costs down when Caravan Parks charge per person. We will have 4 vehicles towing camper trailers and the Fam of 8 also has a large mumma-firetruck tent.
TIA

Not sure on the free part but if you get stuck there is a cracker of a van park in cooktown with the best amenities I have ever been to.

The only free one we found was just outside Cooktown at Archer Point, beautiful spot on the coast, but it can get busy.  Endeavor River Escape is a great place, bush like camping with toilets and showers.  I think it was $25 a night when we stayed there last month.  Kevin
