ROOF TOP TENT
« on: July 07, 2016, 08:41:33 PM »
Hellllooooo..

Am wondering if anybody knows where you can buy the fully integrated rooftop tents like they use on the Patriot campers and the Mission camper trailers ??...
Un zip the cover and the whole enclosed room sets up with the top- and the bed stays on the trailer instead of folding in half...
Have searched ebay and google...

Any ideas ??

Off trax campers had something on their fb page the other day about an Aust built camper top for their metallian camper. Their outback tent was a thing of beauty with gas stays and no poles or pegs.

Kev is asking about a type which has the bottom section already attached, a bit rare it may seem.

Yes I hear you, I am wanting to replace my tent and searching for options, the Patriot is perfect, the whole trailer is pretty dam good looking at that video, I to am wanting a tent that does not fold in the middle, but still a tent and not a box, I was thinking to have an annex custom made off one of those xtm tents

hey gang....
thanks to all for finding those links.
So my idea was to take off the RTT of mine and bolt on a - say for example camper trailer top- so i could have a little more room when i get dressed and a much thicker mattress...
I like the idea of the patriot type ones and i was guessing they wouldn't be cheap. After getting some specs, it seems they are about 2.1 long- and thats too long for the top of my trailer, even the Metalian camper trailer top is 2.1 long. I also looked at the solid roof ones- 7 seconds to set up- but they range from 2.1- 2.4 long.....
So thanks all....
Kev

How long and wide is your trailers top Kev, easy enough to fit a bigger bed base /  tent section, with say a 150 mm over hang on all sides ??.. Wouldnt be to out of place in the looks dept .

The smallest oztent can be used as a roof top style tent, it could possibly be attached to a hard base and left with bedding in place with the tent base spread out in place perminantly. Would just need a protective cover for the whole setup.

With the tent I have, the lower room slides into the sail track that the cover slides into which is attached to the non folding floor section that is attached to the roof rack. Set up like this you have to remove the lower room for travel.

What you could do is add another sail track to the folding 1/2 of the floor, that way the lower section could be left attached all the time just bundled up and zipped under the cover.

I have a 1.4 Deluxe, which is adequate to 2 and a bit tight for 3 to sleep, the 1.8 would be better. The 2.2 would be massive!

Yep still looking at options myself. Looked at the XTM again just cant see the value in it. So thinking similar, will build new top for my trailer, remove the huge tent, put on a roof tent, and also maybe the Oztent foxwing awning as I have a rear tail gate kitchen which this should cover nicely. Just want something nice and simple to set up.
