MDC or Skamper Kamper Trailer, Maybe a Blue tongue?
« on: June 26, 2016, 05:42:55 PM »
Hey all, just about to buy the "Skamper Kamper Gecko" or "MDC Cape York Edition" rear folding camper.

More swaying towards the Gecko but just wondering if any has or knows anyone who has had one or any interaction with the companies.

Yes they are cheap chinese end of the market but only got $20,000 to spend

Cheers

Bullant4x4,
I have a Blue Tongue RF very similar to the gecko, see signature for my camper tread, and it has been great for my needs and use. What your needs are only you can tell but i would say if you go in with your eyes open and realistic about what you need and can live with then i say something like what you have listed could be fine.

I was bored last week sick at home, and started lookin through caravan camping sales website and was shocked at some of the bargains out there.. Some of them don't compute, like a few of the divorce sales I saw

The Skamper looks to have the same tent as a black series unless their website is out of date. Does the 'kids room' come with a floor? The black series version didn't.

MDC kitchen has aust stove/ sink and a bigger slideout kitchen with extra pantry sections, drawers and a bigger slideout table, Staino slide out bbq unit, heavier canvas, drawers under the bed, better elecs, boat loader etc etc.

Not necessarily all plusses or minuses, just differences. My mate gets heaps more gear under his bed with no drawers and would never have them. My wife think the MDC drawers under the bed are the best. I couldn't give a rats either way.

I've got a Cape York and like it. I think the spec level of the Skamper is closer to the MDC Jackson rearfold which is $5k cheaper - quite a bit at your price point.

My Black Series annex room has a pvc bucket floor so if the Skamper is the same it should have one. Been through high winds and heavy rain and never had an issue with the tent.

Yes the kids room on the Skamper comes with a floor.
The new Geckos come with a full length chassis and new, already seasoned? canvas which is German made.

I have been looking at campers an it might be my imagination but all the imported ones are starting to look like they come out of same factory or the one next door hard to pick the difference

We're in the same boat at the moment... currently looking at Modcon Quattro, Bluewater Snowy, & Broadwater Hamilton in no particular order...

Camping ground footprint of important, so leaning towards the Quattro at the moment...

They all seem to be out of the same factory, and it's the local customizations that differentiate between them as far as I can tell...

Haha I mentioned the same thing not long ago and the sycophants went berserk. There's not a lot between any of them, but you still have to go and have a look. Then there's the well informed salesmen - I couldn't get my head around black series not putting a floor in the kids room - turns out they do. Well informed salesman at Rocklea lost a steak lunch right there.
