Stone Stomper
« on: June 01, 2016, 07:56:48 PM »
I know it has been mentioned before, but wanted to add my 2 bobs worth about Christian and Stone Stomper.
I gave Christian an order and paid on 24th May. Today, 8 days later my new stone stomper arrived on my door step in Perth.

Fantastic service and a great looking product.
Thanks Christian.

x 3.  Have had two on different campers and each one quality made and delivered within days of ordering.  Because of the length of the stomper on this  camper Christian even added some extra supports at no extra cost.   His customer service is second to none.  More importantly the product WORKS!!! I have one on my caravan (my second) and one on my O/R box trailer used to carry my Ag bike out west and they work a treat, and as said Christian's service is outstanding.

We are doing a half lap next month so we'll see how it goes.

A bit hard for me to add any more praise for Stone Stomper  :cup:. It can't provide perfect protection over stony roads, and I don't think anything can apart from staying off them, however it was a fantastic addition to my Modcon HFA camper. A benefit for me is the dust suppression behind the vehicle on really dusty roads.  I will never travel without it again. I have made a few very small modification to mine and passed them on to Christian.  I changed the small D shackles for bow shackles, as they are much easier to fit. Just for info I have posted the pics.

What did you use to make the heat shield? I am planning on a DIY similar to the stone stomper and had also thought of something similar to what you have done with the heat shield but haven't discovered the right product to use yet.

This is the stuff I used. The rocks mark it a bit but it works. It won't stick to the canvas so I had it sewed on and if it gets too badly damaged it can be unpicked and another bit sewed on.

Like everyone else.  Can't fault the SS, did 10k of dirt and rough bitumen when we did the cape trip and will be doing another lot in a few weeks, camper still looks good and back windscreen (the real reason I purchased it) still intact.

Also if you leave on the rear flap even when not towing, its seems to keep people that little bit further away from you which is a great thing!

Hint for those wise ones, take all the connections off before driving away ! Had one left one and made a bit a goose of myself.  Still the replaced shock strap and straightened rear flap and its all good.

The shackles attach the mesh to the brackets on each side of the camper. They are quite small d-shackles and fiddly for fat fingers!!
How is yours attached to the camper gronk?

Ahh, so you have those on the camper end? Ours has similar on the car end, but the camper end has a d-shackle on each corner.

You can just see the shackle in the bottom left of this pic. I rarely take the SS off the kamper so no too much of an issue I spose!

We are another set of happy customers.
We almost wrecked ours by not fitting it properly (our fault, not theirs) and it was dragging. We went through some really deep boggy stuff on the Oodnadatta Track recently after their rains.
We couldn't finish the track and had to bypass from William Creek into Coober Pedy (I think we might've been the first van through and it was mighty boggy, slippery in sections).
We emailed SS and arranged to send it to them via the post on the Wed from Coober Pedy. They had it repaired and back in the mail for us to pick up at Katherine PO by the next Monday. They weren't going to charge but we told them it was our fault and so bill us which came to a whopping $30. lol. We also sent it dirty and dusty because we had no way to clean it before we sent it. It came back nice and clean :-)
The biggest delay was Australia Post! It wook them a full week to get it to Katherine!
10/10 to SS!

Saw a set up today like GeoffA, the setup was above the drawbar and sat perfectly. No dragging in the mud.  Yes the draw bar will get hit with stones but the main thing it did the same job. I will have to start getting pics.
