In car radio volumes?

This topic might be more suited to the caravanersforum, but thought I'd try here first.
Wondering if any other old buggers have same issue.

Have found in the last 3 or 4 years when listening to local radio stations, I'm forever adjusting the volume.

1-host conversations or talk back never loud enough and have to turn it up.
2-music then seems too loud and find I have to turn it down, and
3-adverts are even louder.

Now before you start, yes I have had regular hearing tests and there's nothing wrong there outside of normal age deterioration.

I am aware that stations tune the adverts to a defined frequency or resonance so that they are pitched differently to get listeners attention, but why the difference between music and talk back etc?

Adverts loud = Marketing ploy to make sure old buggas can hear the ad.

The Commodore auto increased volume when you hit a certain speed to compensate for the road noise.. hate it when you pull up at lights and you can hardly hear it..


EVO... NEED NEW STEREO IN COMMODORE!!!!

As long as you don't look at the display & find the volume is an odd number, if so must be changed.
I'm much better now & change the volume without looking, the shrink thinks I'm getting better.

It has more than two zeros after the first number.

Made me laugh the reference to the caravaner's forum.....

However I detest advertisements. I know they a purpose but not in my world.

Luv anything ABC for that very reason..  triple j or anything that doesn't involve Frank Beaumont and his stupid tiles (Victorian reference)

Minister had a SuckSuki last car, and that 'feature' could be turn off in it's settings....got the manual for yours?
But aftermarket is always an improvement over OEM anyway  ;)

A few year back one of the "Current Affairs" program did some mythbusting on this very topic as a lot of people were complaining about the same thing.

In a nutshell, the volume over the radio or TV stays the say. The perceived change is volume is a trick of the ear. From memory it is because ads have music they appear louder than the spoken word.

Believe it if you will.

Feisty, it is not just Victorians who have to put up with him, he does his adds here as well (Brisbane) Beaumont Tiiiiillllllleeeeeessssss.

I play, Spotify, iTunes, USB or CDs anything but listen to the radio for music. They seem to think I wanna here them gab of instead of the music!

I play iTunes when traveling for music, especially  when out in the country. If all they had was 'talkback' it would be turned off....

When a normal conversation is happening at normal volume the spaces between words make the volume appear at a certain level. However, whentheyplayanaddtheytalkataconstatntvolumewithnopauses... makes it APPEAR louder..

Try using a Db sound meter next time your favourite radio station is running, and then tell me the volume doesn't increase.
It's not a trick of the mind, your free to air TV can be just as bad.
