I am going to put 2 reversing camera's in the OKA, one down low for the hitch and one up high to give a broader view. the issue is that i am very limited to where i can mount the screen, as i have 2 x gloveboxes across the dash and the remaining space is taken by the dash console, which also lifts up to allow access to fuses and relays etc.

So i am basically left with a roof mount. I would prefer a flip down screen, so as not to clutter the windscreen, especially sitting so high and close to it. I was thinking of a Ram mount, as i have a few and like them a lot, but that would mean having to loosen the ball everytime, which would get to be a PITA.

Any ideas? I can make a frame to mount it to no problems, really need the flip down system that can handle off road conditions.

Edit - I have though of using a tablet as the screen if need be, which opens up the options i would think.

have you a double din sterio space?
You could place a upper market smart dvd screen in there that takes two cameras that can be quickly switched between the two?

Only have a single DIN stereo, which has a small screen on it, not big enough for a reverse camera screen though.

I don't think the sunvisor would work of road, the extra weight of the screen would fold it down on rough roads.

Thanks for the options. Might have to look into making my own or modifying something to suit.

Depends how often you want to use it. If you want to use it every time you reverse, flip down would be a PITA and you'd never end up using it.

Figure out how to reverse the image, get some of that reflective HUD film and lay the screen on the dash

I won't use it everytime i reverse, mainly for hooking up the trailer, as getting in an out to check is a bit of a pain, being so high. About the only other times would be when i can't see in the mirrors or while driving and just to check the load.

My dad had a bus motor home...he has 2x lcd camera screens mounted to the windscreen either side of the speedo ...will this work for you?

Unfortunately it won't, the dash console with the gauges lifts up and almost touches the windscreen, there are relays and a fuse panel in there.

In the very centre of mine, an XT, there is a glovebox and another in front of the passenger seat, both lift up and touch teh windscreen, so the whole dash is basically unusable as a mounting surface.

For a big rig there isn't much room left, the roof is open slather though. Underneath isn't much better now, gone from a 4 cylinder to a 6 with 10x as much wiring, plus a bigger transmission and air tanks etc.

There are fold down DVD players, if theyve got an AV input they might be suitable.

I had looked at those, wasn't sure about the inputs, especially seeing as i want 2 cameras, maybe 3 later, put one on mt flat top trailer, being 8.5m long overall, it might be handy.

I tried to find on online, only found an LT dash pic, which is a later model and doesn't have the centre glovebox. Not sure if the dash lifts on them either.

I would buy the industrial / commercial grade double sided tape.....run all your cables to the front...run them so 1x screen is placed on the left...1x is placed on the right....then connect to the screens...then add tape to back top and bottom edges...then as flush as you can get them...place them tight and low with the top edge resting agaist windscreen...then the bottom edge directly against top edge of console.....ensure edge is wiped down with dry spirit of some sort.....

not only will be slimline and almost flush agaist windscreen...it will also allow the tape to suck up any vibration of any sort....and they WILL NOT MOVE

I cut a couple of alloy strips and made hooks that I covered with heat shrink, and screwed them to the back of a 7" monitor. The monitor then hangs on the sun visor in my troopy, and is used for reversing. I didn't have any problem with the visor drooping on corrugations even at speed, because the monitors are pretty light really. The only problem I have, is that because the troopy is quite high, and I'm a shortarse, I have to look up high to see it. I'm thinking of using a smaller windscreen mounted monitor instead now.

I put one of these in - it has two screens, one is the usual numberplate-light-mounted camera that can see the hitch and the other is on the roof rack looking out over the trailer to see whats behind and/or around it. the 'reversing/hitching/ camera works off the reversing light of course so isn't always on but the way the screen(s) work is there are two sets of inputs for each of the two screens with the second input being able to override the first so it can effectively 'switch inputs'. the result is I have the roof rack cam on at all times and the 'hitch' cam when I'm reversing - going to put these onto the one screen and for the second screen a wireless cam high on the boat so I can see behind that as well when it's being towed, with the 'fourth' camera lower on the boat trailer to see where the ruddy thing is at the launch ramp

Hi Moose,

In my OKA I mounted the screen on the roof; I folded a piece of aluminium, the front fits under the sun visor / rear view mirror and uses its mounting screws, the rear part sits on the bar that supports the interior light, I have fitted the reversing camera screen, remote Codan mike and external radio speaker on the aluminium plate. It alll works a treat with no loss of vison.

I can’t take a photo at present as my front cab is all pulled apart as I’m fitting a new roof and camper box. I could photo the mounting plate with gear mounted it that helps.

All good with pics for now, can wait a while till your done. I know it can take a while, hopefully your done quicker than the 4 years it took for my engine conversion, lol.

Screen is fixed it sits on standard screen mount, I could fold up the aluminium plate and mail it to you if it’s the way you decide to go.
