New 4by Remote Opening
« on: May 25, 2016, 11:33:51 AM »
Had an incident last week where both of my remote door openers stopped working and the situation had me wondering how other swaggers have acted/reacted in this scenario.

I was lucky in that my Nav still uses a key (on the remote) to start the ignition, and (without any practice) I recalled that hidden under the passenger door handle is an emergency door lock that I then used the key to open the car, get in and start the ignition. If I hadn't recalled reading about the emergency key lock, then under any other circumstance I would have been in a bit of strife as both the manual and emergency assist numbers were in the glovebox.

I know newer 4by's don't have keys and have both remote opening and remote ignition, so how would you open the door/start the car if the battery went flat etc?

Exactly, my troll still uses a manual key   , and no remote on it at all. Not bad for a 2012 model  :cup: :cup:

The 200 has a key in the fob which opens the door and I carry a heap of spare batteries in the car. I had a faulty fob which was eating batteries in a week, luckily replaced under warranty.

so how would you open the door if the battery went flat etc?
Have heard that if you breifly short out a live power wire from the vehicles system, it trips the central locking and unlocks .. dont know how true it is though ..
Or you could always try the old How to unlock and start your car with a mobile phone  as shown on youtube vids .

A couple of years ago my Father went fishing and dropped his key in the water at the boat ramp when getting out the boat after a days fishing. Walked to the car and pushed the button and unfortunately the door didn’t unlock.

He panicked and walked to the local phone box to phone his Wife/My Mum and asked her to phone me to ask me to drop into their place to pick up his spare key and for me drive 1 hour away and rescue him.

It wasn’t the best timing as I had things on, but dropped everyone seeing he was in need.

Get to the boat ramp with Dad all flustered about the button not working. But before I used the key from home I asked what’s wrong with the old fashion way of unlocking doors. He looked puzzled and then I put his key in the lock and turned to unlock.

Embarrassed was an understatement and seeing he was driving an early model commodore with limited anti-theft, as long as the little bump on the key touched the steel strip on the ignition it started.

After a couple of days in the sun the button started working again.

Spare batteries in the car don't help once they are flat and your sitting at Farina in the dark.. :)

And if you touch the fob to the start button you can still start the car.
