HELP! Toowoomba to DARWIN!

We will be travelling from Toowoomba to Darwin (possibly via Emerald & Cairns) in Aug/Sep this year!
We have two children who will be 2 and 9 month when we head off.
We have just purchased a 2012 MDC Step through camper trailer which will be towed by our MY16 Pajero.

What are your must see attractions from Toowoomba - Darwin?
You're top tips for travelling with small children?
Top tips for a first time camping family?
Anything else you think would be useful?

We are relocating from Tbar - Darwin so thought we'd make the most of our trip by doing a driving/camping holiday along the way. We have about 2 weeks to do the trip in.

3300km.... lucky you.

I took mine to Newcastle - Townsville and back when they were about that age and they traveled really well.

The main thing is to take breaks to they can get out of the car and explore stuff and burn off some energy. Snacks, pencils, paper and something to draw on can keep the older one entertained. Wiggles singalongs kept them amused, but sent me out of my mind.

We were lucky that the eldest sleeps within 10 minutes of starting the motor, now 14 and nothing has changed. The youngest talks incessantly.

Things to see, at that age you can make great plans to see sights, but they will probably enjoy poking a stick in a puddle or rolling down a grassy hill more than any tourist draw card.

Was going to say Carnarvon Gorge however no good unless you want to carry the baby for 20km's walking.

Longreach - Qantas, Stockman's hall of fame

Winton - Lark Quarry (out of town) and the Dinosaur museum thingy

Haven't been further North West than that so maybe some others can pick up from there.

Your title reminded me of a book- 1988 by Andrew McGahon.
A couple of kids who take a job on a weather station and drive up to Darwin from Brisbane and the fun they had getting there. Based on real experiences. Worth a read but not as a 'how to' guide with kids.
Little kids like movie players and an adult in the back seat with them to play games and colour in.
Ours have always been good travellers. We usually got a couple of hours out of them in the morning without a movie, have a stop and some lunch and an afternoon matinee on the longer drives. Main thing is to not have preconceived ideas about what they like. The oldest likes bird books and colouring in, the youngest just passes out and sleeps as soon as we start 4wding.
Now they are older I drive around their sleep patterns if I have a long run. Coming home from Carnarvon last time we left at 3 p.m., had dinner in Roma at about 6.30, the kids fell asleep and I was home at midnight. Going out, we left at 0100 in the morning and they woke up for maccas brekky in Roma at sunrise.
