Kids swags

so we are in a situation with 2 kids under 3 and need to contain them in their beds at night or they tend to not want to goto sleep, get up and go wandering or get up at rediculous hours of the night and think it's funny to open mummy and daddy's eyes by jamming their little fingers into our eye sockets.
We have been using a portacot and will continue to use it for the little one but now the older is outgrowing it so was thinking about getting a kids size swag for him and zipping him up at night.
Any suggestions for a good kids size swag? The ARB skydome ones look the goods but I haven't priced one up yet and if they're anything like the rest of ARBs stuff they'll be very exxy.

Our son has been sleeping in a kids swag since he was 2, he sleeps better in the swag that he does at home. It keeps him nice and warm and he can't roll out during the night.
We got a kids swag from Ray's, as it's not out in the weather the quality wasn't a big issue for us but has been great so far.

Looking for something half decent as we sometimes go camping for a night or 2 and leave mum and the baby at home without the trailer and just take a tent.
Wouldn't mind leaving the tent at home and swagging it under the stars when we can. Might go check out BCF, Rays a reasonable quality one would be ok for a night here and there. Cars got an awning if the weather goes bad

Our Ray's swag would be fine for all but the very worst weather I think. I would use a double swag if I was taking the kids on my own and swagging it, keeps everyone nice and warm and close.

Why a kids swag?  We've just put our two (6 & 8 ) in full size single swags. Then you can use them if you want. Our 3 yr old loves playing in them.  We got Oztrail Mitchell Expeditions from Snowy's Outdoors for $170 as we weren't sure if the kids would take to them. They seem OK and since then we've had them in a thunderstorm and had a tiny leak. About a cupful of water. But our camper leaked on the same night too.

Our kids have the ARB ones. Good thing about them is they can be put up without the use of any ropes.


We've got both the purple and blue. We love em, the kids love em. Toasty warm, if anything too warm perhaps in summer.

I use a Dune Trekker for my son and one for me. From anaconda.
They are biker swags, with a narrow mattress and for in a sports bag.  My daughter has the next size up only because it was on special at the time.

I wouldn't buy a kids size as they will very quickly outgrow them. I learnt that with sleeping bags.

Stick with the port-a-cot, but put it upside down and then stick something heavy on top

I bought my son ( 8 ) one of these. They are quite good for the money and pack down to a reasonable size. The down side of the swag is that they might might panic if they feel trapped.... especially after you cable tie them in there . Maybe you could sleep in the swags and the screen will provide some eye protection, but then you will probably just be used as a trampoline.

Forget the swag throw then into a camp cot, zip them up in a warm sleeping bag & they pack up the size of a camp chair. My boys love their camp cots

Our local saddlery won't do kids swags, as (althoigh they'd end up with more business) they point out that their swags would last a lot longer than a kid would be using it for!

With sleeping bags, tie a piece of rope around the point that is about 4" below the kids feet, this stops them sliding down and getting in a tizz when they can't work out what's going on, and also stops them needing warm up the space they aren't using.

I agree with others that you should get an adult size. We put our son in one of ours at 5 years old no dramas. My wife and I sleep in a southern cross King double which is huge ..plenty of room for the boy if he feels the need...which only happens when he wakes in the morning.
Biggest issue we have is he wants to use ours as a cubby house. I'm thinking of getting him either a king single or smaller double to keep him and his gear out of mine😀 He is not quite seven yet.

Thanks everyone some good tips and pointers there! I like the idea of the porta-cot upside with something heavy on top🙈🙉🙊 not sure about sharing a swag and the human trampoline idea tho.. He will definitely be up for that.
I think I'll give him a go in "my swag" in the tent next time, see how he goes in that and if he likes it then I'll look at getting him his own.
A quality full size is the sensible idea, but once, buy right. He's not even 3 yet so a kids will probably get a good 10 years out of (maybe). Thinking smaller, lighter, takes up less room etc....

We had swags made for our kids many years ago here locally but without the mattress....just your traditional type of swag design. Then we grabbed bed a peice of 2" foam in single length from Clarkes rubber and cut nearly in half (3 year old, 6 year old lengths) to add to each swag.......just fold the remaining canvas under them.

As they grow add a larger peice of foam......they are now young adults, still have their swags and now a full mattress.
