G'day All,

We are now awaiting our JAYCO Swan to be built after selling our current camper.

I am currently at the drawing board stage on my modifications (Drawbar storage, Robe removal, pole storage – to name a few).
I looked through the other threads on here but can’t find what I’m after so wanted to start a new thread for people to get involved in.

Please post up your modifications on your Jayco Camping trailers and once ours arrives, I will do the same.

I was not aware until a friend (a Jayco Expanda owner told me), Jayco sales on Camping trailers are at a record high. There must be a few people out there wanting more info on some good mod ideas people have come up with.

Cheers and Beers,
Joe & Sal.

Awesome news - hope you love the new Swan.

Maybe just search in here - many guys have made their own threads on mods to their campers. And I'm sure there is a couple of Jayco "mod" threads already opened. Just sayin' there is already heaps of ideas in here already.

I did have a good look though the forum searching for key items but there was very limited mods on the drawbar for storage. The other issue is many of the mods are on earlier campers, I know the chassis did change a few years back and the front storage was added so am really keen to see some mods done in the last few years on the trailers.

This was a great post to get info from - http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=36652.0

I purposely ordered the longer draw bar for a storage option on the front for a portable toilet (3 girls in my family, the portable toilet is a mandatory item when we go anywhere).

Some of the electrical mods I have found on the forum are gold, will be looking at these over the wet session in Cairns while I can pop the camper up under the carport and work on it and drink beer when it is too hot and wet to get out camping.

Cheers,

Joe

No worries, please excuse me if you feel I jumped on your thread.

I know the portable toilet issue, I have two daughters, plus wife.

Hi all, we bought a Jayco Swan swan outback in 2014. In general we love the van and has done everything we wanted. The basic underfloor steel structure appears pretty solid, and we have had no fridge, stove, equipment, electrical or gas problems. The only slight disappointment has been a few interior furniture design details have not been durable as they should have been. However Jayco were good with the warranty and fixed them all. Other small things that occurred later have relatively easy to fix with a drill and a few screws.
In general the van is well set up and only wanted to minor enhancements to suit our camping style (primarily national park campground, with drop toilets, and no power around WA).
So the minor mods we have done are
- Put a hanging shelf in the cupboard which allows easy access shelves and leaves a small amount of hanging space (howards storage world)- see photo
- Bought a webber mini Q - Great BBQ just fits into the front boot. This connects directly to the gas bayonet on the A frame - see photo
- Installed an anderson plug under floor with a direct connection to the battery for a portable SOLAR cell (portable cell can also be moved to charge the 2nd battery in the pajero - which is rarely required)
- Added a wood strip under the forward lounge, to provide more support for the plywood panel under the cushion (this is a poor design detail from jayco, as when you step on the lounge to access the beds, eventually the rivets will give up the ghost) - See photo
- Bought a small power inverter to convert 12V to 240V to run a laptop (from whitworths marine supplies)
- T Bubble levels mounted on the A frame to quickly see whether the van is level)
- Portable 12v shower kit, plus a solar shower heater- basically a black colour waterproof bag and a bucket (under $100). Plugs into exterior 12v socket. Works pretty well to have a shower in your swimmers, and just scraped through the minister of home affairs assessment criteria
- Second gas bottle
- Small electric blow heater (have used this a couple of times in the winter camping as termperatures fell to 5 degrees C overnight- Can only be used when you are on a powered caravan site).
- Proper breathable caravan ground sheets ( a bit exxy at $250, but is convenient and has been worth it)

Hi JSKM

We have a 2015 Swan Outback and we love it.  It came with the Show Pack, which included 12V 19" LED / DVD TV.

We had it fitted from factory with;  double water tank, double gas cylinders, air con, TV antenna, awning & walls, bed fly's (both ends), ext hand shower & hot water unit.

We had a few minor warranty items during the first 12 months -
1.  A snapped lifting cable, when we were at Waratah Bay in the rain wasn't much fun
2. A minor water leak from the hot water unit
3. The lower door surround was replaced, as it wasn't lining up well with upper door component.  These are not as good as they could be
4. Power isolation switch on roof / hood was replaced (this cuts out power to the roof - LED lights weren't working)

We have then fitted it with;  solar inlet and reg to battery, 2 X fans to rear of fridge outlet (with int switch), removed the folding cupboard (we use 5 X plastic tubs for clothes & towels etc), stone guard, clothes line using rope and ute buttons on the rear bed stays, extra mud flap at front to suppress stones doing damage and guards on water tanks to protect fittings

We carry;  2 X blowmould tables (one for the Weber), Weber Baby Q (fits in the front boot), small elec heater, 2.4 x 2.4 Oztrail Gazebo, CGear mat (great if you have the extra $$) and camp chairs

If you want any pics, just ask, more than happy to share.  Learning how the things work and what goes where, has helped me understand the camper better.  Stuart at CRS in Mornington VIC is a very handy person to get to know and ask questions of.

  Mick

Dont have one, but in the process of building my own version ..
To help organise and clear clutter outside the camper etc A foldable hanging rack / baskets to hook under the front  bed end .. Or an under  bed end tent enclosure for the rear.
Mud / sand flaps and tie up chains for the wind down support legs + a pinned sliding leg /foot extension mod to them  to allow extra length for uneven ground [ no need to carry extra blocks ] .
For the main bed so you can sleep north / south, a fold over extension to support the mattress and a fold up bed head so the pillows dont rub etc on the canvas .http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=40642.msg668181#msg668181
