Well I'll be buggered.
« on: April 25, 2016, 07:40:44 PM »
Some time back I posted up that I had buggered my 80 ltr Trailblazer fridge. I had at the time wired in the wrong polarity, thus the fridge stopped working.

I tried several times to get the fridge to go, but in the end I believed that I had fried the circuit board that runs the compressor. :-[

So I bought a new Evakool fridge/freezer , very happy with the new fridge,  :cup: but now $1200.00 poorer.

Yesterday I was cleaning out my shed, the old Trailblazer was heading to the dump. :'(

Something made me try one more time to see if the fridge would work, I decided to plug the Trailblazer into the 240 volt system, turned on the power and low and behold, the fans started running, the compressor kicked in and the fridge started getting cold.

Left it run all night, this morning all good.  ;D

Unplugged the fridge from the 240 volt power, set up a battery, hooked the fridge up to the battery, no bloody go. ???  >:( ???

Sooooooooooo, what the hell. Unplugged the Anderson plug from the battery system, had a look at the inside of the Anderson plug and found that the Neg lug was not locked in place. ???

Bloody D!(# head, when I reversed the polarity back to the proper way , (way back when,) I must not have pushed the Neg lug in hard enough and clicked it into place. >:( :-[ :'(

Yes I stuffed up, but what the hell. I now have my Evakool fridge/freezer sitting on the draw bar of my Trackabout , I have my 35ltr beer fridge, and I now have my 80ltr Trailblazer working again, just in time to take it fishing and fill it up with fish and mud crabs on the May long weekend.

Lesson to others and moral of this story.

Regardless of how many times you wire in an Anderson plug, double check to see/feel that the lugs are clipped/locked into position.

Cheers and beers, and don't laugh to hard.

Onya duggie, you've had a win... :cup: :cup:

I had a similar experience with the original fridge in the Coota. It was playing up, and I'd get the odd little tingle from it, so I parked it. I was about to take it to the fridge repairers and like you, thought I'd give it one last run. Same result!! It worked fine!! Turned out to be a dodgey power point in the shed. Funny though, the main beer fridge has been running fine from it forever.

It's back in the camper again.... ;D ;D

Hmmm I think you're onto something. Tell the missus, the old one is broken and you have to buy a new one. Buy a new one all good. Some time later fix the old one :cup:

Yea Geoff,

I have been walking around the bloody thing for months, I even said to brother John to take it( and see if he could fix it ), but it would not fit in his Nissan the way he has his setup.

It was only a last minute thing that prompted me to try in on the 240volt system.

Yea I told her, head bowed, seeking forgiveness .  :-[

But after I explained that I normally take an esky and ice with me when I go away fishing, ( the Trailblazer will now become my fish/crab esky/fridge ) she was all good. ;D
