Stuff the micro$oft bloatware, it hasn't got soft in the name for nothing...
Get yourself a copy of Linux Mint and you're laughing. Even on a 10 year old laptop....

So this is the year Linux is taking over the desktop then  ;D

Nope, but it's a damn sight easier than struggling with something that either doesn't work, or when it does, it gets updated and is broken again. If you don't need to use programs that will only run on a windoze box, and there are plenty of Linux alternatives these days, then do yourself a favour...  ;D
4.2L TD Toyota Troopy, (Clarke's Country Camper Trailer, softfloor.) sold it and bought a Avan Ray small poptop caravan.

Worse mistake I ever found I made was the so called update to Windows 10.  Bloody controlling thing it is

Damn! Sounds like those virgins are the same promise as the wonderful seamless experience I'm gunna get with Windows 10.
A blank screen and a winking cursor like the BIL I suppose.
There's no Great Evil conspiracy against consumers within engineering, manufacturing and supply. Just the many tradeoffs incurred to satisfy diverse tastes, priorities and wallets. But first comes all the insatiable Gummint eggsperts, nanny-staters and usual suspects.

I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years (or sooner) when Microsoft withdraws support for 7, it's time for you to upgrade and you have questions he will have a long memory and be able to get a bit of his own back.
