Water carrying solutions / ideas for Cape trip

Hi all
I'm hoping the collective here can help me out with some ideas for carrying water in the 4wd. Friends of ours with a Paj want to join us on our trip to the Cape next year but they have a few limitations. 1) Fuel capacity and 2) Water capacity. They have a jayco expanda they will take as far as cairns then plan on swagging it the next 3 weeks - we will have our camper trailer we will take the whole way.

Currently they don't have a rear jerry holder nor an aux tank on the Paj.
Wondering what ppl would suggest as the best - and cost effective - way to carry water without consuming a lot of space in the boot?

What about a drop in water bladder on the floor in the back seat?

They can still use that with young kids holds around 60 litres.

Had this setup in my old 4Runner and worked a charm.

Yep Fleximake are good.

I bought a 105 litre one for the floor between the front and back seats. Works well. Can also hook up a shower with an inline pump.
I only have youngish children though so leg room wasn't a problem. Would not work with adults or larger kids in the back seat but they do have other option.

As I said, check out the Fleximake stuff.

They make hanging water bladders for various vehicles.
Some that fit inside panels behind interior trims.
You won't know if ya don't have a look.

All of the fresh water creeks along the way in the cape are drinkable water, as long as the creek/river is flowing you can drink it, use it for bathing and cooking.

As Duggie said plenty of water up there. Take bottles of water and there are plenty of fuel places along the way. Is the car petrol or diesel.

Local supermarket. Pureau 10 l water containers. A couple of those will get a family to the cape. I've done it on a motorbike eating hamburgers at roadhouses in 1989. It's not remote like the canning. Having said that I have a flexitank for the ute if I need it.

I pedaled the Cape in 1995 (ok... so it was a while ago) and I'm paranoid about water.

I had the capacity to carry 12L of water (+ a 2L emergency bottle).

But in truth I only ever carried around 6L. As other have said... most of the creeks are drinkable and roadhouses have water too.

A cheap budget water method is casks of water from Aldi. They're cheap, easy to work with and fold flat when empty.

Anything from an NP forward the third row seat can be pulled out in 10 minutes freeing up about 150 lt of usable storage.
As others have said, bladder tanks are the go.
Plastimo from Whitworths boat chandlers are also good.

I took 60L of water, but 2 kids and I lived out of 1 x 20L jerry, topping it up when we got fuel or had potable water at a camp. We drank the water out of the jerry and used creek water for washing and the like. The other 2 drums didn't even come out of the vehicle.

Fuel was similar, it is available most place, you will pay a bit more for it, but in the end it won't be worth the inconvenience of loosing space so you can wedge another jerry in. I took 40L along and used 20L of that once. We went from Wiepa to Chili Beach and then back to Bramwell Junction. I was looking at the map and the fuel gauge and thought better safe than sorry, I still had 25L in the tank when I got to Bramwell Junction. It could have been avoided if I had planned better and filled up at Lockheart River.

I have a ute, so space isn't that much of an issue, but if I was wagoning it, take 20L of each and top up the tanks when the opportunity arises.
