Spot Trace

Does anyone have one of these or know much about them?

http://www.findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=109&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=website&utm_campaign=trace

(American website, but has Aus dealers)

I'm considering getting one for my new solid-canvas camper.
We will definitely have insurance, but I am concerned that we had to wait a year for it to come and if it gets stolen, I don't really want to have to wait a year to get another one.

I was hoping to use one of these to track it and get it back.
It apparently can alert you every 2 1/2 mins so I'll know if someone steals it even when I'm not there.
I can then notify our friendly constabulary who can use their tricky little cameras to pull it over..... :police:

That's the theory anyway.
I figure at 3.1m high and 29 foot long its too long to chuck in a truck and too big to hide within 5 mins.

Hoping someone knows a bit about them or has one and can give me some info.

Thanks
Brian

Yes. I have one on my trailer.  I put it on last November just before a 2 week trip up in north WA.  Works a treat.  I share the locations page with family and friends and then spot trace shares its location onto the map visible to friends as to where we are.   Every time the trailer moves after a period of non movement will send myself and my wife a text message to say it has moved.  It will also send a message if it is running low on battery.  I do have the external power also attached in using the trailer batteries.

Thanks for that. I assume you are happy with it???

Also it appears not to use a GSM card like most of the cheaper units.
Is it just plug and play or does it need a mobile network card?
I know I'm asking a lot here, but I appreciate any info........
I also assume you have paid for the yearly subscription. How much is it here in Oz and did you go direct through them?

Thanks
Brian

It works over The SPOT GPS network so no SIM card and also means it will talk back to satellites wherever you are as if like me you may spend a lot of time where there is no mobile coverage.  You pay a subscription to the service and yes that is what I did.  I went through SPOT direct on their website.  Pretty happy with it. Batteries lasted 4 months before changing although it depends how often you use it and talk back your position etc. All configurable.  Very happy with it at the moment.

We have a SPOT for our van. I just brought th SPOT inside and I received an email within minutes to tell me my asset had moved. The SPOT had only been moved about 10m - still on our property :-)
