Is Fuel available at Yowah?
« on: March 02, 2016, 11:46:33 AM »
This is a long shot.. I posted this question up on another site. Didn't get one answer. Not even asking where Yowah is.
So... Has anyone been to or passed through Yowah recently??
Last time we went there, quite a while ago, fuel was available, but I have been told recently that fuel is now only available to customers that camp/are customers of the local caravan park.
Reason being that the last place we will fuel up before there is Cunnamulla, and then driving to Yowah and driving around the area while fossicking will be around 200Km. Then we plan to semi off road up through the Sheep Station Creek area, from turning off the Yowah - Toompine road at 27 39.343413,144 35.198948 it is a case of using GPS way points following old station tracks (or make our own) to Duck creek, then eventually coming out at Toompine (no fuel), and on to Quilpie as the next fuel stop which will be at least around another 300km. Dragging the camper over rough tracks is going to mean lots of fuel use, and only having a 65litre tank means carrying jerry cans which take up much needed room. Whereas if we can fuel up at Yowah, the one jerry can that is mounted on the camper plus one in the back of the Hilux should give us a safety margin.. Working on 20lt/100Km at best with most of the trip between Yowah to Toompine in 4wd with the camper attached, a fair bit of low range crawling. I figure that with out fuel top up at Yowah, we would need 3 additional jerry cans.. Lot of space and of course, weight.

Hi,
In 1976 there was a general store that sold fuel, gas and rented out a couple of dusty spider infested huts.
Shower was from a bore drain and a hoisted bucket.
Cheers

It also sold frozen bread, tobacco, ammunition and 4x slabs thru the back door.

I haven't been there, but http://www.paroo.info/Information/YowahOpalField.aspx

Fuel and gas is available for guests only of the Artesian Waters Caravan Park.

... but you already knew that.

You might be able to call them, plead you case/negotiate and they may make an exception though.

So... does that mean that you were guests of the caravan park then??

Last time we went  'through' there, things were a little bit more civilized with a good meal at the local cafe.. From what I can glean, the store is owned by the same people as the van park.. But, I have also been told that the cafe is theirs as well.
Really want to do this side trip to the Sheep station area as we have been given co ordinates of some old diggings and been shown some very nice samples.. Spoken to the property owners and every thing is go except the question of fuel..
