Dinking Water

How do people usually go about re-filling their drinking water tanks if you are away for long periods of time and not staying in caravan parks ? I know there are plenty of taps around at servos but I don't suppose they would be giving it away for free . Does anyone just offer to pay the going rate ? I like to be self-sufficient but there's only so much weight you can carry . Cheers

I've got a couple of jerry can holders on the trailer which I use to carry extra water in blue jerries.
There are not many places in Oz these days where you need to carry extra fuel.

I find once you get out of the metro area, most not too remote places have taps at parks, tourist info centres, sporting ovals etc. Just ask a local.
Never been a problem for us finding water.
I carry a B.E.S.T. filter. It removes most tastes, even from that SA water.

Some grey water drop points have taps.
Some rest stops Some parks. 
I haven't ever filled up at a servo, but I've seen people doing it.
You can pump from creeks with a separate pump and filter.
You could build a desalination plant on the roof of the tug.. Ok that ones a bit of a stretch.
Or stop in a van park every few weeks etc.

Yep, gotta do the laundry every now and then.

We don't take chances with drinking water. We carry enough to get us by for several weeks.
The Lovely got crook many years ago at Noosa...never again.

Yup. It's good to have a loooong shower after a while.  Get some washing done, tidy everything up. . 
I might be even slightly guilty of staying in a cabin or Hotel/motel rather than camping for that one night.. The luxury of not making a bed or setting up if you have been in the move a lot with your own flushing toilet and shower can turn an average cabin in whoop whoop into The Ritz...
But I only do it for SWMBO. Honest....

The only problem with this method is that some units use the ARB bullbar as the filter and the salt that is extracted has been known to make the bars rust prematurely. The snorkel not so much of an issue if made of pvc or stainless

Yeah but it only causes rust at the seam welds on the upper loops of the Bullbar. When they fall off you'll get better water flow and be able to fill your water tanks much faster.

l taste & if ok top up where ever we are  , except Fitzroy Crossing in WA . At the council  office /Touristt info they charge $1 per litre . l suppose its cheaper than fuel . :cheers:
