Deuter Futura 26 hiking pack or similar

I want a small pack to carry when doing the hikes up north and want the ability to carry equip and food/water to sustain 3 of use for 24-36 hrs just in case.

I know most of the Kimberly trails are well marked and prob 500 people a day in tourist season but I may ventuer a little further afield and like to be prepared.

It looks massive in the pic but its quite small and light and on sale at $120 has a nice frame to keep it off your back. The Rush 12 is a great bag with lots of pockets but I think with the heat up there the deuter might be a better option.

I am looking for opinions suggestions from people who do a bit of this stuff or who have been hiking up there as to which way I should go pack wise.

I know I already have 2 of the rush 12 here but $120 for a nice walk pack to use over 4 mths  in the Kimberley is fine with me if its the better option.

Looking for any feedback .

Good price I guess.....would have thought it would be little lighter.

I'm a One Planet fan......I'm considering the One Plant Traverse. I like a canvass pack for dragging in and out of the car/camper and given the the rocky/ruggedness of the Kimberly.

This price will be a killer....but I'm convinced One Planet gear will last a life time.

Oh I would go the Deuter over the other one.....you will be great full of having a hip belt on longer walks.

Sort out what gear you are want to carry first off and from there you will have an idea of what size you are looking at. Nothing worse then getting too small a pack to start with

On the flip side, how much stuff do you need for 24-36 hours (plus a survival day  if things go pear shaped). It is much less than one might imagine. Water, rations, shelter.Minimum first aid. After that everything else is what you want to have for each journey. The more you carry the harder it becomes.

I ended up with a blackwolf fury 30 after reviews on cycling forums. It's frame keeps a good air gap off your back. A couple of years old now and like new still.

I've had a few Deuter backpacks. It was the back frame that attracted me to them as there wasn't many others doing that at the time, but they did have a good reputation as well.
The ones I had were always well made and lasted a while and the back frame did help in keeping your back a little cooler.

just to follow up there was a rays near the hospital so i stopped in on way home or wife did as shes the chauffeur..got a Kestrel 20 daypack , its the rays own brand but with YKK zippers and is a very good quality unit , I sat the deuter next to it and just simply could not see the price differnce being justified .

was funny when i walked in and asked about back packs ..poor girl looked at me and im sure thought WTF mate your cactus ..mrs held it up to my back , she tried both on and reckons the rays one was better as it had slightly narrower shoulder straps , its only for 3ltr bladder/ first aiud kit and a few other essentials for day hikes .
