I was there in August. What ever you do, do not try n do it in a day trip. It's too far for a return trip and will be kicking yourself for not booking in. We stayed for three nights and should've stayed a week.
Getting in took about 3 hrs from the highway. It was easy going with fast gravel road for the first hour or so and it gets harder the closer you get to the point. There are some sand dunes to cross but easy enough towing 2 tonne van with 200 series. Just ensure you run tyre pressure down around 18 psi.
We stayed on the other side of the hill from the Rangers Station and had a blast. We jumped on the barge and had a return trip to Dirk Hartog island as he was dropping of a vehicle to the island.
Caught whiting off the beach and our neighbours 200 mtrs down beach caught a decent Spanish Mackeral using surf rod and livey with a balloon.
When we drove out to the point for photos and book sign we went down to the cliffs and watched whales swim past no more the 30 metres away, absolutely brilliant !!

Also I think this year there are big celebrations for the discovery of the area by Dirk Hartog so there might be something on when your in the area.

All camping must be booked, which can be done online. This was done to stop it getting out of control on the point, fighting over fishing spots, etc.
Once you get to the causeway let tyres down. Its sign posted by memory.
There are only 2 sections that can be a problem.
First one is a long hungry run, but its not too steep.
Second one is a steep dune with a crest. Make sure you have a spotter at the crest cause its single lane going up and 2 way but opposite direction lanes going down.
Havent been for a while but track normally pretty reasonable. About a 3-4 hr drive from the Overlander depending on how corrogated the gravel is.
The point is for serious balloon and lure spin fishing, not alot of room for campers etc and can be quiet feral depending on how busy it is. The Ovens is probably the pick for a camper set up, or eastern most area at the bottom of the point. You will need a flying gaff to land anything big.
Theres good diving a km back on the inside of the point with crays and big tusk fish
The beach sites near the rangers shack are scenic and more relaxed. About 20 min less travel to here than the point.
We normally fish the point early and late in the day, and fish the Zuytdorp cliffs just south of the point during the day. 50m+ shear cliffs good for Pinkys, Spangled Emperors and Bald Chin Groper.

The road in from Denham turnoff to False entrance/steep point T junction is in really good nick,the shire are preparing for the next 5 Kays of bitumen at end of the existing bitumen.  I live at Useless Loop, we have just finished grading and rolling the stretch from "the Loop turnoff" to the T junction,which is usually corrugated,also widened the top of a couple of hilltops where the road was a bit narrow.

We were there at New Year.
As previously mentioned let your tyres down. We were towing and it was fine but very sandy.
We also went to Dirk Hartog island - absolutely amazing, definitely worth the cost to get there. The only downer was the enormous number of mice. The last night we ended up sleeping in the car - they were EVERYWHERE. Although we thought we had packed up carefully and double checked everything we still ended up bringing at least one mouse back in the canvas of the Camprite.

we went there in the prado in 2014 stayed at tamala station an day tripped out to the point, great place to visit sandy tracks past the causeway well worth a visit to tamala station as we had our own private beach and private campsite, which was a bonus with 3 kids all under 10.

We made the mistake of going during the middle of a 45 degree day,  sand was soft!   That first Hill caught us out towing a tvan,  had tyres down to 10 in the ute and 8 in the trailer.  Rest of the way was ok though.    The way out was easy in the morning with cooler temps.

Yeah i rate this place as well, we stayed there 4 nights and caught stax of fish, only down size is snapper need to be returned if you dont have tags,but bluebone and flathead as well.... in fact fishing was f'ing wicked there

Only Pinkies caught on the inside region.
We get ours on the Cliffs, thats outside of the restricted area.
