They're great - if they wear them and use them.

We got one for my grandmother who had a bad knee and was pretty much confined to one part of the house.

Didn't have one - so couldn't alert us the burglar in the house whilst she locked herself in the living room and listened to him stealing all my grandfathers war medals.  Phone was in the hall...
Then she refused to wear it - fell over and couldn't get up. Laid on the kitchen floor overnight until her carer arrived in the morning.
Convinced her to wear it - she fell again and didn't press the alarm for another few hours - because she didn't want to inconvenience anyone. Sheesh.

x3... the old man didn't want an ambo either.. the poor prick couldn't move.. I think his hernia ruptured or something cause he literally couldn't move... and 2 shots of morph didn't do Shit either..

My old man thinks hes being a PITA when he asks me to bring in bread and milk twice a week or do his shopping twice a week... FFS, cant get it thru his head that I like going around and seeing him... he wont be around for ever..

Anyway, just called, and after being told he was going to the ward at 9.15 - he has only just arrived there... 12.50pm!

What a Shit state the health system is in.

Yeah, because of so many dead$h1ts that go to the hospital for minor things to save themselves having to pay a doctor.
Same up here in QLD

When my Mrs was in a couple of years ago for an op, the woman in the bed next to her refused to go home until they gave her some strong pain medication. This leech wasn't in any pain, she was on the phone to her BF and he was obviously telling her she had to get these pain killers and they were talking about sharing them or some crap. After some pretty heated discussions, the doctor ended up giving her the stuff just to get rid of her.
Opened my eyes to what is going on and why the system is clogged!

Hope your old man is ok.

Turns out that the old man has a broken hip.. now he hasn't had a fall, so that's even more concerning as to what has caused it..

We tried to convince my mum to get an alarm. Brother went through all the hoops, but she refused at the last minute.

She wasn't well. On Saturday night I said to Kay that I just felt we should go and check on her. Just as well. She'd been on the floor for hours, completely exhausted from trying to get back up. She didn't know why she fell, her leg "just went". Turned out she had a blood clot in her leg.

If she'd been wearing an alarm we could have been there much sooner..... ::) ::)

Hope your dad improves real soon Bird.

Went and seen him tonight, he seems ... confused/different somehow.. cant put my finger on whats different but... just seems it somehow..

The story was - he broke his hip some how... hasn't had a fall he says... the worst he had was he fell back onto the Shitter while getting up once - in about November... so unless its been broken since then, fawk knows.

So had that replaced last night, but haven't spoken to a dr or anything at all yet... cant seem to catch the prick! and there isn't a nurse that was born in AU in the whole ****in place.

he says his vision has pretty much gone now, which is phucked, which was phucked before, but now can only make out shadows and Shit...

phucked if I wanna get old..  It just doesn't appeal to me at all
anyway that's about it for now...

He's had a big operation mate. The anaesthetic will knock him around at his age. Give him a few days and hopefully things should improve a bit. Best of luck.

What he said! ^^  ;)

Don't give up on things, Bird. Seeing as it is the weekend and if you can, be there from early morning and corner the Dr when he comes to check up or you find the head nurse/matron and you make it amply obvious, that you want answers on WTF is going on and prognoses for the future.  :)

A few dudes have asked on PM, so thought I'd post an update.

The old man is now in the "Mornington Center" rehab joint.. What a ****in morbid place... :(
Old bloke next to him has had a stroke, and keeps yelling 'help help help' or 'medical 'medical 'medical' over and over.. They cant get through to him what's happened. Poor old ****, you have to feel for him, he looks like a fit old boy too. its just the helplessness of it all. All the paitents are on their beds, but the beds are on the floor so they cant fall out... never seen it before.

Anyway when he got there he was not making any sense at all when talking to us... After a week he started to come good, but wasn't eating but was back to his old self talking
But they keep giving him Shit he doesn't like to eat then complain that he isn't eating ???

Over the last week, managed to get him to eat a few things, jelly, moose, few wedges but nothing of substance, or healthy.. he's as weak as a Toyota LSD and its Shit to see him like this...
They have been trying to get him up and about, and have had some success over the weeks which was great to hear... I'd love to see him at home on his chair again watchin his tele.

Got a call today (from only the second nurse to speak English) that he had a bad night spewing his arse up, so I said keep me informed - she was fantastic in her explanation and care. Sarvo before leaving work, called for an update.. Still hasn't eaten, and is has just been vomiting...

So dropped in with a cold can of lemonade and a burger incase he was hungry and its something he would usually eat.

As I got there he spewed up this runny black Shit - straight from a ****in horror movie... it was ****in hideous, and he was almost choking.. Ran and grabbed nurse, and she dealt with it.. **** they earn triple their pittance of a wage.

So after they did their magic on him, they took his blood pressure and its dropping... Not a good sign

I hung around and after 30 mins or so he had a drink of the lemonade, and was sounding better... So left him there... had a word to the nurse who is waiting for the Dr to turn up, and she said she would call  me with what the Dr said...

So she called just now and we had a chat, and they are going to put him on IV food/fluid what ever they do, and send off the sample of the chunder for testing..

Then she floored me a bit - If he doesn't get better, do I want them to send him to Frankston Hospital or just make him comfortable. In other words, let him die.

We asked what they would do at Frankston, and they said maybe shove a camera down his throat and look around for what's going on. But not sure what they will find, and what they can do for him...
I'm not ready to give up on him yet, he's me dad... But I said ask what he wants. I know he's tired and I think he has had enough... His mind is still spot on - ask him anything about WW1-2 and history, and he's on it... but his body is ****ed.

So I think I'll head down there in the morning and see if I can find a doctor, as they are like mozzie cocks down there... you can never ****in find one...

It's his birthday Saturday.. hope he makes it.

edit: in the hour it took to write this, his blood pressure has dropped and they just called to say they are taking him to Frankston by Ambo
