one way security screws

Do's anyone know how or if there is a way to undo those one way security screws that are used to attach window locks  :-[ :'(

You could try someone who makes security screens, or if the window has a manufacturers name try them or a distributor.
Our local Home Hardware has a window and security section and you can buy a screwdriver bit made for them for $15

I'll try and get the unscrew kit, as there isn't any room to grind a slot.

You may get them with a cobalt drill bit. They're a bit harder than the standard bit. Any good bolt store should have them.

This could be worth a try. Use a center punch placed on the sloped portion( as close to the outer edge of screw head as possible) of the one way and rap repeatedly with a hammer. Once the the head makes a few turns and rises above the surface, just use the vise grips to grab the head and complete the unscrewing. This method works on the flat headed ones that are flush with surface and hardest to remove. Just remember to direct the fast raps to "walk" the screw, no hard blows needed. A hard blow can cause the punch to slip and mar the work.

I've drilled them out before. Not easy and slow but it works! You only need to drill deep enough until the head of the screws breaks away, then pull the lock off an wind the remaining screw out of the window with vice grips.

Failing that I'd be using a centre punch as described above.

Yep ive drilled out heaps of them.
Center punch them then start with a 1/8 or smaller bit and step up sizes.
As already said you dont have to drill more than about 5mm.
Most of them the bolt head breaks off when they are fitted and i wasnt aware there was a key avaliable for that type

You can get the removal tools here. A bit pricey and can be a bit hit and miss with tight screws or if the head is damaged.

These are hardened screws a center punch dont leve a mark on them,  they are in the lock so i have 10mm x 10 mm to work on them

I work as a security installer (doors, screens, window locks etc) and get this from time to time. We use a cordless dremel to cut a slot into the top of the screw and then use a good quality flat blade to remove it. Also giving the screwdriver a tap with a hammer before trying to remove will also help break any corrosion that may have formed. Why are you trying to remove the offending lock?

It's a brand new lock, Me being a dickhead :-[ and not checking, put the wrong spacer on and the lock part doesn't reach to lock, :'( alcohol might have been involved. ;D

How'd you go? Get it off? One other thing to try is to get a high quality screwdriver that fits the slot perfectly(this bits important). While pushing down on the screwdriver with one hand. Twist with the other. Sorry, should have said to try this in my post last night.

All turned out good, It was the perfect excuse to buy a new battery operated Dremel, I then fitted a tiny cutting wheel on it and cut the screw slot deeper so a screw driver could undo it, so all refitted and working perfectly  :cup: :cheers:
