Help with Aldi tablet
« on: January 04, 2016, 07:01:16 AM »
Bought a couple of the Aldi tablets for the kids for Christmas. Not bad for $99.

Only issue we are currently having is when we download a movie from google play, it wont play offline.
It will play when connected to wifi but not hen disconnected. We have downloaded to the device and the icon appears on there but not playing.

Does anyone have any ideas? It is running 4.4, Google Play help line was no help.

I'm not familiar with the device, but my guess is that your device is checking the files usage rights (or something similar) as you start to play it. You need to be online for it to say yeah the video is authorised to play on this device. It would be to stop sharing.

Is it any different if you go into airplane mode and play?
Did you buy or just rent the video? Is there anything in google play where you buy the video that suggests you have to remain online to play it?
Can you go offline or into airplane mode  once it has started playing?

How much available memory and storage has the tablet? Sufficient to store and play a downloaded movie offline.

I know some online libraray programs are like that.

Some will download to the device and some will only stream while online...

From what I have read you should b able to download the movie and play it offline, you
need to select the download option.

Thanks for the thoughts. Apologies for the late reply, just got back from Fraser Island.
Looks like the problem may be a lack of memory, requiring the micro SD card.
We had definately downloaded the movies to the device. We have done a reset on one of them to try the SD card later today.

I remember having a not so serious look at them whilst in Aldi for something else.
They had 16gb of internal memory.  Heaps of room for a few movies.
What are you using to play the movie.
And what format is the file?

Perhaps use VLC app. I use that one for offline movies.

I'm not sure about movie icons from google play. Perhaps the icon is just a link to online streaming?!?

Thanks everyone for your assistance. We managed to get it to work today by downloading VLC as neowatcher suggested, thanks it was driving my wife insane! We also used the SD cards to store the movies.

Although they have 16g apparently they wouldn't handle the downloaded movies. Google play movies will still not work. Google help line is fairly useless.

The icon for the movies via Google play seem to just be a link to the movies.
