We just bought one of these electronic Trivial Pursuit units:

The beauty of these is the amount of questions you can store, I hooked it up to the net and downloaded all the categories that my wife and I would have any chance in answering.

You can then allocate the different categories to the pie buttons.

The Monopoly game looks interesting I think that might be a purchase.

Has anyone played Scrabble cards or Scrabble Slam?

Also Sequence, Normal cards,

But where can you buy those 3 Foot Jenga? That'd be pretty cool!

cheers

Gold!  ;D

+1 for a set of Dominoes...there's heaps of different games to be played with a set of these and you can have a few play at once.

You could also do lots of the old fun games like "Celebrity Heads" if you've got a crowd of people, all you need is a piece of paper for them to hold above their head as they try to guess who they are! Also an old fave is a game we used to play based on Pictonary. We'd have several teams of people, a list of words and one person from each team had to draw the word for their team to guess. First team finished won of course! Simple but fun...

All these games sound interesting, however does anyone know of a good site that explains the rules to the various cards games that have been mentioned.

I think it may have been mentioned previous but Broady made a giant set of Jenga and took it to the high country, The kids loved it then later all the pissed parents had a go. While i didn't it was still good entertainment watching. There may be some pics on our trip if not get on to Broady.
By the way. Jules it the Jenga master...

Rules for card games:   Start with these sites

http://www.pagat.com/alpha.html
http://thehouseofcards.com/cardgamerules.html
http://cardgamerules.homestead.com/
http://www.webterrace.com/cards/home.htm

I typed "rules for card games" in google search and these are 4 of 64,600,000 hits.  Keep searching you might find other games we haven't heard of.

There's also books - Hoyles rules of Games is one that comes to mind.  We've got one or two around the house somewhere, handy to have with you when you haven't got the internet out at the camp site and someone wants to argue the finer points of rules.

Used to play a bit of Jenga at parties when I was a bit younger....the loser of each game had to scull a middy of port.....you certainly didn't want to lose three times in a row !!! ;D

Best game for any kid is one that entails LOTS of activity.......that way they sleep like a log, and you can enjoy more time around the campfire !!

We have just bought a card game called billionair. It is not really a kids game but adults will get heaps of pleasure out of it. It is fairly high paced so you need to keep your wit's about you. We also have full sized monopoly. We have been playing the same game for about 4 weeks now (sunday night) we made up a spread sheet and printed it off. it just shows what each player has at the end of the night and where they were on the game board. It adds about 5 minutes to the playing time each night.

Good tip if you need to upgrade monopoly keep the tray that holds all the money. The new version does not have it.

Our favourite camping game is called "Articulate". This is similar to Pictionary, but instead of drawing the object, one has to describe it without saying the name.  There are several categories (person, place, object, science/nature etc).

Always a good challenge.

We just got back from three weeks holiday and I'm so glad we bought monopoly cards, we played it every night.

The missus dominated on the first night and she became quite the bragger giving me heaps about it, telling me my strategy was flawed.

I turned the tables on her though and won every other night of the trip except one and in doing so gave her back some good sledging about her strategy.

My wife took the game really seriously and became so pissed off with losing there were some serious tension in our relationship.  ;D

We like Pass the Pig. It's a bit silly but good fun.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pass_the_Pigs, and it is small (about the size of a pack of cards).

Rush Hour, a small board game where you have to unlock a pre organised traffic jam of cars and trucks on the game board. But it's a one person game.

Cribbage Board and box of matches.  'Crib' is the greatest card game ever for camping - can be left part complete and returned to later - which is why it was so popular in the armed forces through 2 world wars.
We were taught by dad when we were kids.  Also good for young kids counting skills.

Hi,
we have a miniature version of the game of Boules that can be a bit o fun, only need a bit of flat ground.
The steel balls in the set we have are not much larger than golf balls.

My parents used to play crib every evening when away in the van, but I never took to card games, in spite of 6 years in the RAAF where it seemed every body played.

cheers
