Wayne Rogers, whose Trapper John McIntyre on M.A.S.H. was among the most beloved characters on one of the most popular shows of all time, has died.

The actor was surrounded by family when he died on Thursday in Los Angeles of complications from pneumonia at age 82, his publicist and longtime friend Rona Menashe said.

As army surgeon Trapper John on M.A.S.H., Rogers swapped wisecracks with partner in martinis and mischief Hawkeye Pierce, played by Alan Alda.

Record crowd turns out for Stars' BBL win

The Big Bash League is officially a thing. The people of Melbourne and the MCG made it so on Saturday night when 80,883 squashed into the grand old ground for the Stars-Renegades derby, astonishing even organisers and overwhelming security protocols. Many thousands were caught in queues snaking around Yarra Park, waiting for bag searches and body scans. As per long history of MCG crowds, their humour held. To accommodate the swarm, the MCC at length had to open the members' reserve to all comers and remove a promotional banner that initially had covered one bank of seats.

Eighty thousand, eight hundred and eighty three. It is worth spelling out. It was almost certainly the biggest crowd for a domestic cricket match anytime, anywhere. It was bigger than this season's Boxing Day crowd, and for that matter last season's, too. It was bigger than any Collingwood-Carlton AFL game for the past two years, once the gold standard for derby-style matches in Melbourne. That must have left Eddie McGuire, president of both the Magpies and Stars, with mixed feelings. Then again, his teams won every time, winter and summer.

So why wouldn't they just walk inbetween all the people waiting to get past security and blow themselves up? I would have thought what they have done there is worse now then before as far as security goes, if line ups like that will be common. All they have done is make the ground itself safer, but outside that is a much easier target.

'This could be the end of the road for Dick Smith', says Forager Funds boss

Pundits warned that troubled electronics retailer Dick Smith may struggle to re-finance its debt and is at risk of going under after the company voluntarily suspended its shares to buy time to shore up its balance sheet.

In an announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange on Monday the company said it had requested its shares be placed in a trading halt pending an announcement about its "funding position and debt financing covenants".

The combination of weak sales and weak balance sheet could prove lethal.

Analysts, who declined to be quoted, told Fairfax Media the reference to "debt financing covenants" in Monday's ASX announcement indicated that that expected write-downs may be even larger than already flagged.

"The announcement is very negative. This could be the end of the road for Dick Smith," Forager Funds chief investment officer Steve Johnson said.

"I wouldn't be surprised if the company is not able to resume trading on Wednesday and instead seeks an extension of time to continue trying to re-finance its debt".
