we are on a bundle plan $135 p/mth - $17 discount =$118
500GB
Telstra T-Box with foxtel over t-box

The foxtel over t-box has been a disaster as our ADSL line is one of the last along the cable from the exchange, when i try and watch it it frezes and all that jazz..just not enough grunt in the line.

Today telstra called me up and offered to swap the foxtel over t-box..to a satellite dish and IQ3 box  all installed and wired up for no charge and include the 46 free channels or whatever(this is better than the 10 we have)

they will also include the telstra TV little box and 3 mths of free stan /presto ect.

For $139/Mth - $20 disc = $119.00

So i have checked the critical info summary and all calls will be same as we have now so no devils in that detail.

So this leads to my question.

If the new telstra TV still runs over the ADSL line then wont i still have issues trying to watch the streamed content ? or is the way it will work more efficient than the old T-Box?

I mean for $1 more per month I,m getting the satellite dish and foxtel that will work  can also order more chanells or pay per view events that will work 

If the Telstra TV suffers from slow ADSL speeds and it does not work that well at least i am getting 3 mths free to try it.

NBN is being run in my area soon so I gather eventually i will be able to use it..the phone guy said worst case just keep it ..Its free even if you don't use it ..

any thin=g I have missed or anyone been through similar ..i,m just a skeptic..will this Telstra TV mean that future subscriptions to stan/netflicks/presto need to be done through telstra ..is it locked to them being the provider of the contaent and will i pay more for it if in fact I like stan for instance will telstra chareg more for it per month than others ..I cant find any info on this.

We were in the same situation you are in.
We have adsl2 and it was still freezing up every few minutes, and we are the first on our line.
Telstra phoned and offered us a better deal if we would go back to Foxtel over the satalite, so we did.
We were also offered a heap of free sruff that we never got dispite swmbo being on the phone with them numerous times for many hours.
We never got presto or stan to work.
They also "forgot" to tell us we needed to phone up and have the tbox turned off because they dont do that.
Personally I hate Telstra and refuse to speak to them, so swmbo does it all.
Its rare that I watch anything on tv except a movie but swmbo is happy with her Foxtel so thats all I care about.

I think the issue is the T box. There's plenty of reviews out there complaining about it freezing from all over the country. Could be the adsl line as well but can you stream other channels ok via a PC/laptop?. Eg Netflix?  If so its more likely the box.

FWIW we had the full Foxtel package but cut down to the basics about 3/4 months ago and signed up to Netflix. We are just about to kill Foxtel entirely because we are not finding we are missing anything and the kids love Netflix. They didn't bat an eyelid when they lost the kids Foxtel channels. Movies on demand is nice to catch recent films you miss at the cinema but it's not enough to justify the subscription as you pay to rent and you pay similar to rent from iTunes anyway (which is unmetered via our provider)

I just finished my Telstra contract including Foxtel on T-Box. My Foxtel on T-Box was good, and only froze up for seconds once an hour or so, so no problem. But was annoyed I could not record the Foxtel on T-Box channels.

Went to Foxtel for everything now. Now have satellite dish, IQ3 box, Foxtel TV, Sports, HD and Kids package, modem and 500gb internet plus phone connection. Costs me $144 per month.

I don't understand why you still have the Telstra TV box? Mine is now packed in a cupboard, probably be binned soon. Is that for the Presto/Stan connection? Don't they give you access to that through the IQ3 box?

I've got telstra tv on our package with foxtel - we're only on adsl (maxes at about 6mb dl) and the telstra tv rarely has any drama with lag etc on netflix or catch up tv apps, unless there is other heavy use on the wifi - phones or fox on demand going or our patchy adsl dropping. 4mb dedicated is enough for standard def netflix on telstra tv.

Have had a Telstra tv for about 6 mths. Don't use it much but it's been faultless . It's actually just a US Roku box that has been reset for Telstra. The Roku box is about the best streaming device you could buy for a while (iam an AV/HiFi tragic )

Is Telstra TV worthwhile? I got a box included with my internet, but never bothered to set it up. The above netflix deal makes it more interesting, that's for sure.

They are great on a second tv if you have fox or as an alternative source for Netflix/ stan or presto if you have one.

Our main/new TV has all the apps built in, but the older panel I retired to the bedroom doesn't, hence it works great in that room. If your TV already has the apps built in then I'd say not much value.

Benefit of this deal is now we get to watch Netflix on both TVs, as the deal is for 2 devices not just the Telstra TV

Don't bother with Optus' offering.. we got it as part of our package when signing up last year.. **** all channels, and Shit quality.. so we went back to Foxtel which I now regret too... all replays of old Shit and how many times can you watch a wilderbeast being eaten by lions... how many 10000 camera crews must be roaming around the wild in Africa???

We don't bother with pay TV anymore... I built up a Kodi box, using a Raspberry Pi 3, and using the Exodus and FreeView plugins, we have catch up TV, and pretty much every TV show or movie you can think of, for no charge

Ok - as promised, I'm at a PC today (forced back to work )

My media streaming setup at home, which we use for watching TV Shows, Movies, FreeView through our 6-7 year old LG TV with limited DLNA capabilities was built from the following components:

This is all of the hardware I have used - I needed a USB keyboard and/or mouse for the initial setup - it's easier to achieve with a keyboard, but equally configured with a mouse.

Once the hardware was put together, I installed the current OpenElec version of Kodi on the MicroSD card - Kodi used to be known as XBox Media Center, and now runs on several platforms, of which the Raspberry Pi is one. http://openelec.tv/get-openelec/category/57-raspberry-pi2-builds

When you first boot Kodi (OpenElec) it walks you through a simple wizard that connects you to your wireless or wired network, you're "connected".  Next comes installing some Add-Ons to allow media streaming.

For Australian FreeView streaming, I use the following repository installation method: http://www.openmediacentre.com.au/tutorials/kodi/installing-catchup-tv-au-repo-and-add-ons/

There's a new alternative method http://www.openmediacentre.com.au/tutorials/kodi/installing-bogs-xbmc-addon-tv-repo-and-add-ons/ but I've not tried this one yet.

Once the Add-On's are installed, under the Video/Add-Ons menu you'll see the ABC iView, ABC News24, Plus7, Ninemsn Jump-In, TENPlay, SBS CatchUp TV, as well as NRL and AFL.  To view a stream from them, browse to them like you would a file on your PC, and it will open from the streaming provider.

Exodus is a little more complicated to install, and my preferred method is in the following link: http://www.wirelesshack.org/step-by-step-kodi-jarvis-and-exodus-install.html

Exodus appears as another Video Add-On, and can be integrated with "viewing trackers" and to date, has not had any content we want to watch available, including currently screening movies.

For those that are curious about the legality of watching some content online, there's been some discussion around our offices, and there's a view from a couple of the legal eagles that if the content is being streamed and not stored that it's not contravening any of our current legislature with respect to content consumption
