Why do our pets get into our heart?
« on: October 17, 2015, 10:52:46 AM »
We left our 8 year old Border Collie ‘HOPE’ at home for the night Thursday a week ago and came home on the next day and could not find her.  Very unusual for her.  Well we looked and looked, called and called (we live on 61 acres) and could not find her. Put posters around town, called the vets, animal refuges etc and put a lost ad in the local paper.  Then yesterday I followed a tell tale smell and there she was, only about 150 metres from our house, in light scrub.  It appears she had been bitten by a snake and died instantly.  Talk about two grown up people being the biggest sooks.  But pets do get into your heart. They are always there.  Especially with dogs, they follow you about and are always happy to see you.  We have been through some medical challenges in the past few years and she was so good to come home to.
We buried her and now must collect all the posters we put about and get over her.  We had intended on taking her on our next trip, a 12 months one, but now I suppose it will be easier.  When we get back we will find another dog, another good friend.  Bye Hope. Good dog.  :'(   Kevin and Kris

because they love us unconditionally. I have lost so many 'friends' over the years. It doesn't get any easier.
Perhaps one of the hardest was my mini foxy levi, had him for 7 years and 7 months. Toughest little farm dog ever. Damn snake got him too. Was able to get him to the vet within 15 mins, spent thousands and still couldn't save him. Most heart wrenching day of my life.
We have since saved two from snake bites using vitamin c. Worth trying at any rate.

My heart goes out to you.
Trying to find the time to use our camper . . .

If you're a camper, being pet free is good....nothing to worry about.

We have been pet free for 10yrs and after a while you ask yourself.....what purpose does a pet serve ?  And you can only ask that question if you don't have one ATM.

You get out and in to the world -- you take more @#&$. …You climb a little higher, ..you take less @#&$.  …Till one day -- you're up in the rarefied atmosphere -- and you've forgotten what @#&$ even looks like….  Welcome to the layer cake son.

Sorry for your loss mate, our fourth shephard is recovering from a paralysis tick for the the third year running.  Being 12 years old he is taking longer to recover this time around, but after a week he is now getting up by himself now and looking for food.  Slow road to recovery.  Yes they do get into our hearts, but only because they just give everything to us.
Cheers

Sorry to hear of your loss Kev.

Sorry to hear about your loss :(.

They do worm their way into your hearts - half a dozen years ago my 16 year old cat had a stroke and passed next morning - I was a wreck for days :(
We've swapped from the camper to a van yay! :)

So sorry to hear of your loss :'(  My heart goes out to you too.

Our beloved pooch went missing on holiday earlier this year and it was like searching for a lost child. We were extremely lucky and had a happy outcome after a few days. She'd missed us as much as we missed her.

I never thought I'd love another dog like my childhood dog, but regardless of them all having different personalities, they all have the biggest hearts and are eager to love and be loved. Not only are they family...they're friends.

Enjoy your trip, and good luck in the search to find another dog to join your family when you're ready :)

My heart goes out to both of you we have lost both Milli and Dash (in my sig photo) to snakes. I miss them both everyday and was a blubbering mess losing both. We have two dogs at the moment too and they are locked in a run with snake mesh fencing when we are not home I still worry though. We had to stay in Melbourne last night and we were lucky they went to friends house. They are my family. I bet Hope is at the rainbow bridge with Milli, Dash Zaccy and all the other dogs who have left us. You will get another dog when it is the right time it will find you could even be on your trip xo
