Who here stores their camper/van off-site in a secure facility?

I'm interested to know who here stores their camper/van off-site?

In these times of smaller and smaller house blocks, I often wonder if more people are paying to store them offsite.  I see some campers shoved in all sorts of weird spots at some houses, and there's a guy up the road who stores his dual axle van on the road.

Garage all the way for me.  It was the deciding factor when buying - must fit inside garage or x no deal.

But I hear you regarding weird (and not so legal in some cases) storage locations.  There is 1 guy in our estate who has a Coromal wind up that hasn't left his driveway since he moved in lol.

We thought about off site storage, but the cost was prohibitive. Found a better solution: the dearly beloved parents who cannot relinquish the family home despite no kids there any more. 3 car garage with only 1 car....and now + 1 goldstream camper trailer

On a slight tangent, I did a job where the lady was a owner/driver of a semi. She was warned by the council as she wasn't allowed to park the truck on her front lawn. So now she parks it in the street, you can barely fit another car past it but it is legal and the council is happy with that???

It's boat trailers that Mostly live on the streets here. Gov have just introduced rules on it but I am not sure if it's just boats or vans too. But basically they can't be parked in the street no more.

Our CT lives in the driveway when at home- ready for a quick getaway on a Saturday morning.

Noted a few CT's parked in the streets in the neighbourhood. One street further down a guy has his CT, his boat trailer and a normal box trailer all parked on the street - nicely lined up...

My CT lives in the warehouse at work. Secure, out of the weather and best of all, free.

In the front yard, next to the car port for me....[locked and chained].(and insured)...

Just checked the price for secure storage.  Single car garage size.....Lockup $462.00pm, Outside $252pm.

As a pensioner, we cannot afford that....

No idea how they are going to enforce this. What about the early morning fisherman who goes out at dawn for a couple of hours then comes back, parks his boat back in the same spot everyday?

We are lucky that the camper goes up the drive to the back of the property. Its an uphill dog leg through a 1.85m gap. Puts even me off from backing up there to hitch up..

Ours is stored offsite at a designated caravan storage facility @ $25pw - it's outside but has a cover over it...

I wish we had it at home so I can 'tinker' with it at will, but steep slope of block inhibits that (although wife's probably glad it's not within arms reach all the time )

We used to store our 18ft offroader in a storage bay but worked out how to get it passed the 'dog leg' in our drive. Would hate to have to store offsite now ... It's also a nice little 'man cave' at times

My FIL helped me build a timber carport at the side of the house. Before that, it was in the garage with a bees dick clearance on either side and a steep driveway to back up.

Use to store our 18ft offroad poptop in the driveway.Since moving to smaller house in a complex
have had to store our van off site in a secured storage.At least it is only a bit over 1 km away.
Still able to duck down and do small jobs or charge batteries as required.

Find an old person in your area who no longer drives and give 'em a few bucks a month to use their garage or shed.
We did for 6 months when we first got ours until we made some space.

we used to store our caravan at a storage site about 15 mins from home.  Was OK but we found it to be a bit of a pain in the end.  We had to remove the gas bottles every time we stored it.  We had to arrange a time to collect it when we wanted it and it had to be on a weekday which meant getting home early from work.  If I wanted to do anything to the van or needed something from it, more inconvenience. Starting to get the picture?

Only problem with keeping it at home is the room it takes up.  Also, its more at risk of being stolen but we fitted a GPS tracker and a decent lock to negate that to some degree.

MIL's neighbour lady has no room for the 3 cars in her drive, so she parks hers in MIL's garage for $20/mth + putting the bins out weekly 
Keeps her car secured and sheltered, and makes it look like activity at the house - MIL not very mobile these days    win win
