I just looked up the Rainbow Beach towing page and they confirmed divers have been down and they can’t find the 4WD. So it’s either been taken out to sea by the really strong currents in the passage or buried itself at the bottom of the sinkhole.

Earlier this year I witnessed a 4WD stuck in a flowing lagoon at Bribie and I was amazed just how fast it started sinking into the sand.

I recall back in the 1970's; the standard joke or commentary regarding Eli Creek FI - was:

Interestingly, it happened in exactly the same spot as the small one in January this year. They happen all the time up there, and they'll happen again.

Funny you should say that....

I was telling folks yesterday, that bit has been an issue as far back as the 90's. The beach was always skinny through there.

An old thread I know but during a work training course this week we were shown an event that occurred in the USA around sinkholes etc and thought that the Inskip one was nothing compared to this. Doesn't mean it wasn't any less devastating for those involved of course.

Another stat that came out in regards to dams in the US is that there is a significant failure of approx. 1 dam per week and this has been a consistent rate in the last 20 years of record keeping. What is a bit scary is that these are only rated to those dams that are classed as significant (15 metres or higher) so don't include farm dams or the like. Learning is don't drive or camp over or beneath a dam in the US

No, they just found a moron.

There used to be a lighthouse/pilot station on inskip in the late 1800's. It was abandoned due to landslip. The press named it a sinkhole. It is simply a slip due to the angle of repose being reduced as an action of tidal scouring on the south bank. No magic.
