New to CT... What do you consider essentials to pack, etc?
« on: September 03, 2015, 11:17:22 AM »
Hi everyone...

I've just ordered a Leisure Matters Off-road Ranger (hard floor).  I've only camped with tents before, so this is all very new to me...

I welcome any suggestions or hints, from everything about what to carry through to upgrades for the CT.  Anything you wish you'd known from the get-go, or anything you might have recently discovered.  It will be very appreciated :)

The CT is being hooked up to a petrol 2012 RR Evoque.  My fiancé and 11 month old daughter will be joining me on our maiden trip from Perth to Coral Bay in October.

Thanks all!

Justin

Beer.  Should always be packed first and most carefully.  Wind protection will be needed up there in October.  Spare pegs, tie down things etc.

Welcome to the Leisure Matters club mate.
Your question is very difficult to answer without knowing your likes etc. , for me it's food , drinks fridges & solar.
Depending on the weather enough warm clothes & bed covers.
We found the original foam bed to hard so got a pillow top & egg shell foam.
Cheers,

Welcome to Myswag Justin. I agree with Wukkers put the beer in first and you will work the rest out from trip to trip.  Enjoy the CT mate.
Cheers Terry.

You shouldn't need anything more than you took with your tent if it sufficed.

Some people pack 4 tons of Shit *incase* they need it or for wank factor then complain their trailer broke in 1/2 etc...

Go camping and find what YOU think you need...

Beyond food, water and bedding its all very personal. Coming from tents to a CT you'll find you can carry a lot more stuff than before and its quite tempting to chuck a heap of extra stuff in. Do a couple of quick overnight trips before hand if you can, and use them to work out what you do and don't need.  We still pretty much pack the same as we did for tenting. Just got thicker sleeping mats for the kids and more room in the car!  :)

Hi Justin... I am very careful packing only essential stuff but one item we never travel without now is a 20 x 30 tarp.  We discovered we can put the camper up under it, we cam put the camper down under it, it keeps the whole lot dry and keeps everyone very happy.....
Oh, and of course, in addition to your favourite drinks.... if you also pack what your good lady likes to drink you are on a winner....
Cheers.

Welcome to myswag Justin & co. Every myswagger must have one of these (see pic) for the perfect camp set up. Plus a pair tongs, egg flip, bottle opener, duct tape and cable ties. The rest will come with time. Be prepared, you will over pack, but with time you'll whittle the non essentials down

LOL :) -I have used my mate's Engel on several trips to Coral Bay purely for that reason... Food is plentiful at the bakery :)

Hey Tareepato... I'm not a fisher or a sailor, so food and drinks lazing on the beach is the plan... The salesman told me the foam is on the hard side, which suits me fine but not the Mrs who prefers a softer mattress... Will look into it. Cheers

Thanks Sixpack, Bird, tk421 (SW ref if I'm not mistaken), Desert lover and scarpsD40.... All sound, good advice... I travel OS for work and initially used to pack way too much... Over the years I got it down to a fine art, as I will this :) - and that spirit level looks like a winner - cheers :)

If you have done a fair amount of tenting you should have most of what you need / want...

My suggestion is to wait until you get your camper, make a few short trips and figure out what works for you - this is part of the fun.

For us it developed to a point where we have  a specific setup for weekend trips and a setup for extended trips.  But that is just us...

Cheers

Hey Chrisfatboysydney...  I believe they are separate entities - I heard the east coast lot had shut down... The WA crew have their own website... Leisurematterswa.com.au from memory.

Mate has the LM Ranger, and I've done quite a few modifications to it... but one of the most useful was also the simplest and cheapest............ a couple blocks of wood.

We found with his that legs can be a little short to level the trailer properly and then level the floor. Also if you get the trailer and the floor level the little feet on the floor may not actually make it to the ground.  So a couple little bits of wood does the trick nicely :)

Also,
The fitting that connects the hard water outlet hose to the tank can break, and we found it hard to source a replacement try hitting up LM for a spare.
Broke it as we pulled in at camp at Quobba and dropped the whole tank of water :(

While I remember.
On my mates camper the advertised "100L" water tank was only actually 85L.

I'll Keep going,
Take to the trailer with the gease gun, all the suspension joints were dry on delivery. and quite a few bolts were loose (not just suspension)

Dont think I'm bagging the trailer, and afternoon giving it a once over and a lube and tighten and you've got a nice comfortable trailer to take away and you'll be happy
Rgds
Rob.

Hi Justin welcome to myswag
May I suggest you pack in everything that will fit
We take recliners for the home theatre, rice cooker, collapsible cupboards, things you have never used at home but might need camping. The more you take the longer you will take to setup and the happier you will be.
But seriously comfy bed comfy seat plenty of lights and lots of beverages will make for a great time.
We have been packing less every time we go away and I must say it is more enjoyable but I am sure the wife wants to pack in more every time
Just enjoy

Do a couple of trips and while doing them, take along some sort of marker. Every time you use something mark it, when you get home remove anything that has not been marked.
