Hi All,
I would like to know if anyone has towed a camper trailer to Waddy Point on Fraser Is. recently.
I am looking at going there in about a months time, just wanna no if it is real difficult.

I was up there in the last school hols and towed our jayco through no dramas. I had 16psi in the front 18in the back and camper.

Did you stay at Waddy campground? Was it ok? The last time I was there was about 38 years ago. X Army Landrover and a tent.

not recently but last year towed my cub (400kg ish) with 13" wheels no problems
towed with a ln167 (no turbo)

Yeah we stayed on the beach front. It was great good size sites and you can use the shower block in fenced section if you want.

A mate is there currently, reckons there's not alot of beach up Northern end of the island currently, even at lowtide. Ngkala Rocks inland track is deep talcum like soft sand at the moment, but he hasn't mentioned Indian Head track at all.
Low tyre pressures are the key for those inland bypasses, so no higher then 18 psi rears and 16 psi fronts like Proudy has already mentioned IMHO. The run up the beah to Indian Head shouldn't be an issue if you time it for a few hours before lowtide, then stop and check the tyre pressures before attempting Indian Head. I'd actually run higher pressures until you get there myself, then drop them for the soft sand of Indian Head.

Just back from Fraser.
Currently the run up to Indian head is great, even at mid tide or closer to high tide.  Plenty of sand in front of both Poyungan and Yidney rocks and no drama at Hook point. 
Indian head itself is a breeze too.
Beyond Champagne pools it was pretty cruisy to orchid beach but I wasn't towing.  I saw plenty of massive trailer boats coming and going though and they all obviously got through to orchid/waddy ok.  Some of those must be pushing 3T although they are usually towed by a landcruiser ute or two...

Anyway, I don't think you'll have too much drama towing a 1 to 1.5T trailer to waddy point at the moment.  It could change in school hols though if a lot of traffic starts cutting the track up and increasing the whoopty-dos (technical term there).  Also if it doesn't rain and the temp keeps increasing it could start to get difficult.

I didn't bother going north but a mate in a prado did Ngkala ok although managed to get stuck on the way back when he was forced off the track by some other traffic.

 Thanks rumpig & chisel, some great advice there. I have booked for a week next month (cause I've left it too late to book and that's all I could get) so it should be all good.

Mate,

You won't have any trouble getting to Waddy. As mentioned, tyre pressure down on both car and trailer, 18 psi should be fine and travel 2 hours either side of low. We were up there June/July and beach was in good nick. I towed an Expanda Outback fully loaded with ease. You'll be right.
