Lifestyle gen 11 or customline adventure walk thru help
« on: July 31, 2015, 07:47:48 PM »
Hi guys, I have owned a customline before and like them, at present we are close to buying either a lifestyle gen11 walkthrough or the customline adventure. Both prices are around the same and reasonable, some say the canvas on the lifestyle is imported? If anyone has any pros or cons it would help us out heaps as we are only a week or so away from making a decision on either. THANKS

Hi Cog,

The canvas on the Lifestyle is Australian made.

IMHO Lifestyle is the best value for money Aussie made camper on the market.

Darren Smart (he is from Lifestyle) is on here and will be able to answer anything you would like to know.

Easy to talk to and very friendly.

Hi . I had a lifestyle gen 2 a 2014 model . Had imported rips top canvas on it , we sold it within 9 months . The trailer is well made and the walk through was great . Our problems came in the form of weight , they are quite heavy they claim 850 kegs but that must be without tent it was over a 1000 when I weighed it empty with half tank of water , but our main issue was time to put up the main tent was not so bad about 15  - 20 mins but the awning took forever and far too many poles to contend with and the first major storm we had water was pooling and coming in throug seems and was popping the clip on spreader bars off . The new ones I think are all Aus canvas now I think but don't know if design has ganged . Hood this helps you .

We have a lifestyle walkthru, which was the first of the genI, genII walkthrus. Ours has chinese canvas on it but I am under the impression that the new models now have australian canvas.

Like Amimall our camper is also very heavy, though there is not a great variance compared to any other option that would suit our situation (these options are still campers not caravans)

My husband and I have setting up down to an art, tent itself usually around 10 mins and annex around 20 mins. We also have issues with water pooling/dripping in the annex if it is raining, even after we added extra spreader bars.
Also be aware that the tropical roof works great but due to the material used, tends to start breaking down and needs to be replaced. There is a thread on here regarding them. Our tropical roof material is fine, but for some reason the fiberglass rod above the bed keeps snapping - this has only started happening in the last 18months.

Also unless they have changed the travel covers, they are very tight. We didnt get the mattress from lifestyle, we used one we already had at home that had no pillowtop. We also put two 4WD mats on top of the mattress, however because our mattress didnt have a pillow top (and was a bit of a sad specimen compared to the one lifestyle use) the entire depth was not that much deeper than had we bought their mattress and had no mat on top - maybe 7cm extra. In the end the zipper burst and we ended up getting a new travel cover made up and now instead of it taking upto 20mins to get the cover on it takes less than 5mins.

We are happy with our camper, it is well built, tows well and doesnt have a tendency to break. The biggest disappointment has been the tent and as stated above I believe it is now an Australian made tent, possibly of a different design.

When we bought our camper we were after a walkup version and at our comfortable price point the only choices were Lifestyle or MDC, even 2nd hand units were still going for over 17K.

While I have given you an overview of the negatives, there are a great many positives and we are happy with our camper.

If you have any other questions regarding our experience feel free to ask here or PM me.

Thanks to everyone who replied although second guessing ourselves on the camper trailer / caravan debate we are picking up a second hand 2013 adventure walk thru customline. We had one years ago and then bought a caravan of which we thought was very overated. The camper trailers have alot more room and can be very versatile if wanting to check a few places out, thanks for your help might see some of you on the road.
