LPG is a necessity of life, especially in the camping and caravanning world. The unfortunate thing with LPG is when something goes wrong, the result is quite often catastrophic.

So sad there have been lives lost and I am not really sure what the cause of this tragedy was.  It pays to inspect and replace any suspect hoses and replace regulators when they get old and not publicise DIY advice from laymen in regards to LPG

one thing for sure no more carrying the tanks in the car - had one scare with a butane canister that didn't seal properly once, that was enough

Sounded very suss to me that 2 LPG cylinders went up big time on a cara and the latest now they're bringing in homicide police from Brissy so they don't think it was an accident.

"Police do not believe the explosion is suspicious."

Given the size and nature of the incident they are likely brought in to assist investigate due to their expertise.

An explosion that shook the entire town of Mt Isa, killing a father and his two young children, is being investigated by police as a possible murder-suicide.

...... is being investigated by police as a possible murder-suicide.
the media certainly seems to be leaning that way with it's reporting, even heard a report today saying the father had threatened to commit suicide in the past week.

It's a helluva bang from overhead drone view and doesn't appear to be a leak filling the van and then ignition although maybe.
However if it was deliberate and the 2 gas bottles involved as stated then how did he get around the safety blow off with the boys present if he was deliberately heating a cylinder?

although put enough heat into them and they certainly can overcome the safety blowoffs- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsppNOHdQII

But you can shoot them to rupture and blow them up- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCYRY5NpRCE

and one eyewitness mentioned some small bangs (like shots?) before the big one. I suspect he shot the boys and then the gas bottle/s to finish himself with the final result in mind and it didn't take long for the authorities to realize foul play.
