Doesnt matter how long since you last got together [ even months or years ] and when you do catch up its no different to having seen them only  a day ago and  if you strike trouble they drop what theyre doing and come and get you outta the Shite if needed no matter the day time or distance ....

Caught up with my best mate from nz on Saturday. ...There a knock at the door and he says "cock sucker" and gives me a bloke hug, I said "I see your still a fat ginger wanker, I'd thought you'd have sorted one of them out by now"....and that was how the day proceeded.
We've been mates since he moved in next door to me when he was 14 and I was about 17.
Havnt seen him for going on 8 years but it's just like yesterday when we catch up.
Probably the only bloke in my life I'd literally put my life on the line for regardless of the situation.
His family's like my family and we've been through he'll and back together.
That's a mate

Yep, Edz and Dale pretty much hit it on the head.
Met my best mate in 1st year uni, he then dropped out and we lost touch, as you do. That was 1977. Fourteen years later (1991) he happened to spot me on a tram, on a line I rarely used. We were both married with young families, and have always managed to stay in touch since then, despite him having been in Brisbane for almost 20 years.  No contact for a while, then a call out of the blue from one to the other when the other just happens to need it. We have both been through some pretty rough times and know that there is nothing the other wouldn't do if needed.  While I have a number of close friends, all any of us need is one 'dinkum' mate.

A great mate will help you up....if and when you fall.
Normally not until they have finished laughing so hard that they can at least hold a camera steady  enough  to get a picture.
Always give 100%... Unless you are giving blood.. then it may not go so well...

Normally not until they have finished laughing so hard that they can at least hold a camera steady  enough  to get a picture.
And they never let you forget it, (without you wanting to punch them.)
Of course until they do something as stupid, then it's your turn to hang on them.

Most importantly they'll drop everything to help you out

If this is a serious question then.........  :-\

Someone that will stand by you in times of trouble and still give you a mouth full if you become to full of yourself. You don't need to see them every day or month but when you catch up, even after a couple of years, you just pick up where you left off as if it was yesterday. ;)

They/you will always help and be supportive when needed and be there with encouragement when you think that you have doubts about yourself!  :cup:

If one of your mates have been killed or has died through illness, you/they never forget about the wife/husband/children and offer support and continuing friendship.

Like I said, I'm not sure if this is a serious question but that's my take on it.  ;)
