Simpson desert - Bus trip!
« on: June 14, 2015, 12:35:46 PM »
I was recently telling a friend of the family about a trip we did across the Simpson a few years ago. She said oh isn't it lovely, we did a bus trip in the early 80's that took her family and 20+ other passengers. First of all I thought she must have meant a trip to Birdsville and not actually crossing the Simpson but then she went on to mention the French line and Dalhousie springs so i knew she was actually talking about crossing the Simpson!  Not a bad effort in a vehicle with a 17,272kg GVM and all those passengers. She then pulled out an old magazine with an article on the "Bus" (Attached).
Cheers

Yep would have crossed with VWs and lots of other normal vehicles I figure. Just like the normal cars we used to drive along the old bridal track.

Had to laugh at one of the Action 4wd videos in VHC. They were down this god awful track having shown us how tough it was to decent and get back up and there half way was an abandon XY falcon or like lol
Here for a good time, not a long time!

What about the towtruck that comes and picks up the tragics that get stuck/brokendown in the Simpson ??....seems pretty similar ??

Big heavy vehicle, but with BIG tyres and low revving high torque engine !!...maybe they should make it do a trip every week to smooth out the ruts left by stupid 4wd's ??

Not a bad idea.  This thing would do it with ease.  https://www.google.com/search?q=birdsville+desert+rescue+truck&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0CB0QsARqFQoTCJek7uSJj8YCFSXYpgodY-0Abg&biw=1264&bih=890
