DUETTO hot water units

Ok ..

i am looking at the Aussie made Duetto 10ltr hot water units and was chasing some real world feed back as everything on line is a bit ..well uneducated ...

OBV they are closed so cant call them up but maybe someone here knows the real answers.

1- does the thermostat work on 12v ? one review says run it off the car whilst driving to camp and have nice hot water care of the alternator another says this will boil the tank dry.

2- I know the specs are 25A on 12v which sounds huge but if reheat is only 30mins then that's workable easily , but if it takes 2 hrs to heat then its obv not.

3- anyone on here use one on 12v at all ..

I installed a Duoetto HWS into our Coromal Magnum XC a couple of years ago after having one in the Aussie Swag C/T. We had the AS 4 years and used it often and were impressed enough to put one into the van when we "crossed over".The thermostat does not work on 12 volt , only 240 volt. I run it on12v when motoring, takes about 50 minutes to reach about boiling,have never had a problem with it boiling dry.It takes about 10-15 minutes on 240 v toreach boiling. So, to sum it up,I have had and used a Duoetto since 2008 and am very happy with it

what's the plus for looking at this brand / type of set up over Webasto unit  out of curiosity Theo?
I'm not familiar with the type you are asking about, but when i read it takes 30 - 50 minutes to heat your water up, all i'm thinking is my set up takes 5 minutes and our water is hot. Not bagging out the brand your looking at, genuinely interested in knowing about this set up and why you'd be looking at going this route is all.

The unit in your camper is about 3K and not a great option in this camper IMHO.. the TRUMA B14 is a well known unit but being gas will need venting to exterior panels so it will need to go in the front box like alot of trailer manufacturers do its also $1600.00 and truma are not without issues as well. The install needs gas lines run etc.

the Duetto on the other hand is a 12/240 unit and is a much simpler install and is a physically smaller unit which will fit nicley in a spot i have already seen inside the front box thus not loosing 1/3 of the tool box.

Downside is it runs on 12v @25A so it likes some 12v power ..that said it would appear it is very fast at heating the 10ltrs tank. so I am sure I can spare 25A  to run this thing if that's all it takes, some reports are 30-50min depending on ambient temps . so i will add 1 hr into the camper daily load draw and see how it effects the batt /solar package , i want this camper to run on 200-240A/H

So the BIG factor is the 25A but thier is only 3 of us and common sense would say to switch on late arvo and let the solar heat it up then a another 10-15mins at shower time I think
If bad weather and no solar at all for a few days then I need to run a genny or car anyways and it can run off either of those as well.

My thoughts are that $300-$350 Vs $1600/$3000 it might well have a limitation that it needs 12/240v and has no diesal or gas but I am thinking this is workable ..

Still got lots more research to do on this and will call the manufacturer on tuesday for a chat.

Hi Jet,

From what I know of these, (and I am looking at fitting one myself) they will use less power if run through an inverter.

I was thinking of a 1500W inverter mounted next to it so it could be used for the HWS as well as other things too.

HMMM thats intersting mate at 1000w I thought it would be way worse ..like 80amps worse 

I am looking at other options as well ..its got to be from an Aussie company and at a realistic price for most people.. Thats the brief ..

See how I go ..some other instant units seem to have a better initial install  ability in terms of plumbing set up etc and will keep the flow going litre after litre

80A for 15m is 20Ah which is about the same as 25A for 50m, so roughly same Ah draw from the battery,  just one is over three times faster and needs an inverter.

Maybe that's what was meant?
