Brisbane caravan and camp...caravan show.

Well we made the trip out to see all the hard floors and were planning to buy one today.  Couldn't get ecomate off there chairs to talk and apparently they dont sell a rear fold anymore,  pretty annoyed as i had my eye set on one. Then went to swag camper and mdc. Swag were so rude to the wife so they were quickly out and mdc told us their show special for the jackson rear fold was 12,990. I told them that its the price on the net so whats so special.  He replied with, well we dropped the price 6 weeks ago so theres ur sale. Ended up leaving and saw a cub spacematic on the way home, bought it for 10 grand. Happy days haha

And the thing to remember these days, the shows are just a big advertising mag that you can touch and feel. They clearly don't care too much about selling, as I found out at the arb/ redarc stand.

The things I got, were a little bit cheaper, but i got them out of convenience.

I agree the sales at shows are non existent and the service should be top notch but think about how many tyre kickers they get through and the amount of time spent on these tyre kickers. Personally I would not go to a show to buy such a big investment as you will never get the service required. Not saying it is justified in any way but sometimes you need to put yourself in their shoes.

i had no problems at the ARB stand with them wanting to sell me something..... i got a price on a new front bar for the future vehicle purchase and they even discounted $300 of it. Said if i chuck down a $50 deposit the price is good for the next 3 months, and if i cancel the purchase i'd still get the $50 back as an in store credit to spend on what i like.
I didn't end up going ahead with it though, as i have no idea exactly which bar from what company or colour coded or not etc i want to get. Will wait till i get the vehicle and make those decisions i think

V8Ute was drooling over one when i bumped into him and his family at the show, can't blame him though as they are a nice bit of kit. I'd happily buy one as a touring vehicle, they'd not be real good for driving around the city in as a daily driver though, hence why i can't buy one

Also found a ice box for $49, but he couldn't even throw in a couple of $3 dry ice bags, so yes agree no one doing deals on anything there.

Lucky bugger indeed, I hope it serves him well. I've still got plenty of time to serve before I retire so maybe one day.... I can still dream.

Saturday's Couriermail reported 18,000 punters had shelled out the $18 bucks to go in...

As that's just for a couple of days (I think the show opens on Thu) - I recon the organisers are maybe going to gross $1M+ - on the  ticket sales alone...

Had a good talk with the folk at Complete Campsite...   and had a close look that there new 16... ($96K)..   Apparently they are 30kg lighter than in 14's - because the lady said that they are hand applying the fiberglass, (vs a scatter gun application)... Plus they have chopped out some internal panels and other stuff...

These things are very much the real deal; from finish, weight, innovations, and price...    Surely Bruce Loxton would be thinking about them re: his KKaravan..

Had a look at some monster 5th wheelers...   Punters pouring in and out of them...    These things had the works - including fireplaces and 3 x expanding walls etc    Approx $180K....       

Some woman cracked a comment inside one of them, as I was passing, she was laughing and saying to her fried...   

"go ask him him if ya Luxy can tow this"    hahahhahahahah

(I couldn't help myself) -- I just dead-paned her and said:    "Geeeez - I bet the bloke has never heard THAT ONE before"   grrrr     dur!

Lunch prices were their usual over-the-top fare...    (Can of Coke $4; Burger $12)... etc

Went with my wife yesterday and had a look....I don't mind these shows....if your looking closely, it allows you, in one day, to walk between numerous ones and compare without having to remember.....and go back and double check things etc....without having to drive all over Brisbane to go to dealers. So I found the entry price a bargain just in time and petrol costs.
 
We were able to narrow down our list to a confirmed 2...

From talking to stall owners, apparently the numbers were way down this year compared to last year. But there was clearly people wanting to spend. We had a quick look at the Kedron area...they had at least 8 vans there...and on the sides they had Sold stickers for people that had purchased that particular model at the show. On one of them, I counted 13 sold stickers.

Saw Renno and family at CC checking things out........And it was a nice sunny day.
   
All up, a nice day out.

Heard some interesting stats yesterday (By the CIAA-Caravan Industry Assoc of Aus) ......not sure how true they all are...

Aus has almost as many reg'd caravan (not sure of definition of a 'caravan') manufacturers as the USA..for very different size markets....product cost here is quite a bit cheaper than USA 
Caravans produced has risen 400% since 1995.
More than 70% of units bought in Aus are made in Aus.

As I was walking up Gregory Terrace on Saturday; I overheard 2 stall holders in deep and animated conversation...

Then I overheard one of them say to the other: "yeah some of the boys from the bigger outfits say they are selling 20 caravans a day"...     

Even if close to true....   w o w !! 


Saw the surviving Leyland brother and his wife standing wearily at a small 3x3mtr booth flogging same of their books; fielding (no doubt) thousands of the same old; same old questions; from a sometimes gushing public...

They tried to put a brave face on the whole thing - but at their age; the mental and physical strain, I am guessing; would have been greater than in any of their treks from the old glory days..

Very sad really - from gutsy entrepreneur adventure type multimillionaires; to bankrupts; then a comeback; (of sorts?...)

i got to chatting with Laraine Leyland as my wife flicked through her cook book, not sure how often she's been asked the question i asked her, but i asked her what she thought of the ABC documentry that aired on them several months back. A nice enough lady i thought as i chatted with her.

Some still manage to be nice to the tyre kickers.   I actually found a more than a few very helpful, and the best of them got a decent sale off me
