Picked up an old Jayco a while back and found this when I removed the rear sheeting.

Tail light housing screw straight into the 240v cable. Well done Jayco  :cup:

You got it wrong.
It was part of the build process.  Screwing in solid cable as shown helps strengthen the chassis.  While also earthing out the positive power supply.

Earth screw? If that's the worst you find in your jayco you're doing well. I'm just starting my fight with them for a list a mile long of poor workmanship!

 You got to look on the positive side of things, like how talented the fitter was to be able to hit the same wire twice in different locations and while it was hidden behind a solid covering  panel... essentialy blindfolded . ;D ;D

Staples must have been on special!  There are so many there, that they have made it weaker.

If the screws went through the wire how was it not shorting out?

I think they are meant to be like that - stops the cable from slapping against the cladding  ;D

The second photo, I think the White wire is ground and black is the hot wire from trailer plug to run the fridge on 12v. Not sure, didn't bother to meter it out. All fixed with a pair of side cutters  ;D
As for the first pic, I stuck a screw back into so as to not let any smoke out  :angel:
