Now I did see a Toyota Tundra parked in Broken Hill last week with a 5.7 Litre badge on it...? (main drag was a bit busy so I parked the Suzy underneath it)

I havnt changed mine in 6 years...we'll I've never changed them and seen some around that claim better economy ect.
Can't think of much else I can do to improve the economy aside from dynoing it, not that it's terrible but it could always be better

Mate I'm just running the standard ngk ones. I'm really happy with the economy but I've always driven big v8's that are a lot worse than Frankie. I'm at the crossroads now though with him. Do I really set him up and keep him for the next 5-10!or do I look at something more modern and invest the $$$ in that.

One thing I don't mind paying a bit extra for fuel if I go the petrol is the fact that I won't have a loan for the vehicle. What I would be forking out in repayments if I went to a newer turbo diesel fourby, or turbo kit for my 80 (I'd have to borrow) I can spend on fuel and still be ahead I suppose.
   So Swannie, maaaate. Swaggers discount. How much we talkin'  ;D

I don't plan selling my 80 for a long while, would cost 10,000 plus to get anything I'd consider better and quite frankly I love driving it and it's comfortable to boot.

That's exactly my thinking. Once you own the car, you can basically put away $100-150 a week (what you would spend on new car repayments) to spend on fix ups and upgrades to the 80.

yea but then you need to find enough bio to run it on.. its hard to get old cookin oil now that companies buy it off the shops.

Still runs on regular diesel like any other bio diesel, just means it can run on almost anything

Then add intercooler, +fitting (probably wouldn't trust myself on something that can effect the reliability of my car so much), + injectors and pump upgrade, + exhaust system, + dyno tune + guages to monitor temps, + potential cooling system upgrage, etc. I could end up at $7000-8000 to do it properly to a point where I'm confident in it. To swap to a clean, low kay petrol 80, I may even come out ahead with cash. Then I could spend $7000ish on fuel. Hard decision though.

That would be cool, but once again, I'd have to borrow to fund it. No problem getting fish and chip oil up here though. I got onto a supplier for my old man. He gets more oil than he can use for free and its so clean he doesn't have to filter it before it goes in the tank. He hasn't paid for fuel in his hilux for a year and a half now.

I've put a 2.5 inch exhaust on mine and it gos alot better, little bit louder than I'd prefer but not rediculous

Grafy, I'm a petrol 80 advocate, however one thing you really need to consider is, if you go down the track of selling yours and purchase a petrol 80 or any other 4wd regardless of fuel type of that era (1990-1997) more often than not you will have to sink a few bucks into it to fix current problems or any surprises after purchase that you didn't pick up in inspection. If you happen to find a 4wd where you can drive away with nothing more to spend, I suspect that you'll be paying a bit more of a premium.
So I'm thinking regardless which way you choose to go, you may well be paying more than you would really like.

Not long ago I very nearly offloaded the petrol Prado for a petrol 100 series, but have stuck where I am for now.
You will pay more for a diesel, so the old argument around more fuel vs more expensive vehicle is rarely considered I believe.

I predict you will enjoy the power and response of a petrol cruiser and forget the fact your fuel consumption has increased!

My opinion based on my experience.
Bought the 80 series about 8 years ago with 260k on the clock. Put the turbo on at 330k, cost about 4k including a 2.5" exhaust. Now nudging 400k and not a problem. We get 12 l/100km not towing, 16 l/100kn towing the KK. Most of the work it does is towing. Have spoken to my mechanic lots about updating, but he says if you know the service history and maintain it well, it is not worth updating. I have also spent a great deal of time and a little money in personalising (drawers, fridge slide, winch, cameras, electric brakes, dual batteries, lift kit, air bags, driving lights, pack rack). All these extras make it an expensive exercise to upgrade and replace all the extras.
If you have a sound unit to start with, I believe it is worth spending the money to fix rather than replace.

Agree, I'd be happy to spend 20k on mine(If I had the coin) tomorrow.
It owes me 41k, including a purchase price of  $21,000.00, 10 years ago, this doesn't include fuel.
