So interesting exercise, how many people weigh and know the real weight of your car.
My new vehicle was basically finished today, so filled with fuel and everything on board in touring trim and with everyone on board went and weighed it.

Was 100kg over my expectation.

With my GVM upgrade which I am glad we did the lovells 3800kg with my towball weight I'm smack on the limit.

Now I know the amount of people that have more 4wd stuff on their vehicles then mine. I.e heavy rear bar. I reckon they just ignore there real weight.

So how many actually really weigh their vehicles loaded with people on board..?

I've never weighed mine but I've added it all up on a spreadsheet based on real world weights.(yes I've weighed my families bags) Still got 150kg to spare.

It's interesting I used a spreadsheet to start with and then weighed.
I was out by 100kg and I was going excessive on the spreadsheet. I get the feeling the so called kerb weight really isn't real.

Add the weight of extra fruit like Batteries, bullbar, winch, brush bars, roof rack, steel Rear bar and wheel carriers and fill both fuel tanks. Mmmmmm. All that adds an extra 50 kgs.

I've done all that and have a 300kg scale set to make sure. With the Hilux I can only tow 2250 kg and have about 4700kg Max tow so I got to be carefull.

Yes I do. 80 series with a kerb weight of 2100kg, on the weighbridge with full fuel and me in it was 2680kg (loaded with most of the stuff I take camping, but not the fridge. Add on 150kg ball weight and an AVM of 2960kg only gives 130 kg for extras. Wife at 70 and loaded fridge at 50, means we do not pack much more in the car.

I think I posted my weights on here somewhere.........agree most wouldn't have a clue what they weigh, a weight bridge is the only way to know exactly what's going on. Alway good to do axle weights as well. From memory I was slightly over on front axle in touring mode.

2800 Defender with trailer connected but off bridge
1000 Camper trailer by itself
1240 Front axle weight defender
1480 Rear axle weight defender
940 Camper trailer axle weight when connect to defender

Another weigh in..........Just me in the car, the only things to pack is three kids and cloths so maybe another 200kg

4.06 car and trailer
2.92 car + tow ball weight
1.14 trailer..........apparently you needs brakes over 750kg
2.80 car, expected to be 3.0-3.1 tomorrow (GVM is 3.2)

i know roughly what my vehicle weighs with me in it, the weighbridge at the local dump tells me that when i leave there...just need to take off the weight of the empty small box trailer on the back is all. It weighs a atleast a 100kg less after the accessories i've removed from it of late, those ARB roofracks and the awning i had on it aren't light for a start.

Forget your 200 series with gvm upgrades or upmarket Landrovers, all useless for long/extended trips, I get concerned with my 105 series not even fully loaded, given all these V8's being diesel or petrol when towing use up around the 15-20 Litres mark better off looking at the light trucks like the Iveco Daily 4x4 which has real fuel usage of 17 Litres over 50,000ks with off road the majority of usage and comes with diff locks 1.7t payload increasable to 2.4t seat 6 and be comfortable to drive

They do look pretty good, but they wouldn't be very practical as a daily (

Most of us need something more suited to dual roles......

I went nuts and seriously considered a daily 4x4 Iveco with travel truck.

Even took one for a drive to play around.

The problem with them is the need to go and get a loaf of bread. You can't fit into shops etc. some caravan parks frown upon them also.

I think they would be an awesome vehicle if you were going out to a special destination, otherwise they can't really be used as a full touring vehicle. Especially with kids.

But I do like them. But was just not going to work unfortunately.

We do the same with our 80 series. The local landscaping yard allows me to weigh the truck on their weigh bridge prior to our trip. Our kerb weight with the 80 kitted out(steel bar, steel roof rack, rear wheel carrier, side and rear awnings, rear draws and fuel) is 2600kg.
I'm always loaded up smack on 3T and thats with constant 400kg 2"suspension in the rear, with that rated suspension the 80 sits, handles and rides better loaded up than empty even when 4wding.

However. I am sure I once heard her say "do I look fat in this rear bar?"

We use our Canter 4x4 as a daily driver at times. It fits into a standard car park at the shopping centre. The doors open out over the bonnet or boot of the cars in the park next door and there is enough room for them to get into their car. So don't really see that an Iveco 4x4 would be a lot different. As for comfort in driving it has a better ride than my HZJ 75 Landcruiser Trayback.
