Storing a portaloo whilst travelling ?

I'm keen here from everyone where and how they store their portaloo whilst travelling in a "wagon" towing a jayco eagle type of camper.

 Any where you like i suppose...make sure it's tied down though....don't want it flipping over !!!!  Contents should be well mixed after a few hours traveling..

Ours goes into a big plastic roller storage box (along with the chemicals and other accessories) and then into the camper.

Before getting the camper it would go on the roof rack or into the back of the Disco.

My suggestion would be go to a discount type shop and get a box big enough for the loo to fit in and store it in that wherever you have room for it.  Ours has never leaked so even smelled in the box.

Ours fits nicely at the end of the bed in our Cub Supamatic. It is stored in a canvas bag made by Infront Canvas the just a stretchy strap around it holding to the internal frame.

We keep ours in a canvas toilet bag in the toolbox on the front draw bar.

I've got a Hawk and I just put it on the floor of the camper sitting on one of those foam rubber squares and pack lots of stuff around it so it can't move.  Always make sure it's empty before we travel but after emptying I do put some more chemical/water in it to make sure there is no residual smell.

Inside a canvas bag and then a fully sealed poly box, having had a mate whose dunny leaked in his caravan, it's the last thing I want to happen in the camper!! In the unfortunate event of a major incident, it won't leak..........although be the least of our problems!!

My first van had a white powder coated lockable box mounted to the rear bumper, neither I nor the previous owner ever used it!  It'd also be a pretty good incentive for people not to follow too close! haha

Yep, been in that situation a few times where there is no dump point within a hundred or so k's so you have to carry it with you.

Exactly what we used to do in our Jaydove.  Might have to explore other options when the Swan arrives though.

Exact same when the Swanny arrives, this is how I did it for a few years with no probs, mine was always emptied prior to heading off.....if no dump point, and whether its right or wrong, I would find the best spot and dig a large hole and bury it....no way I was dragging a half full Shitter across the country.

With my CT I have now it lives on the rack....

the point of them is.... the chemicals used break it all down, and certain family members prefer to use one over the old hole in the ground. I have no issue with the old hole in the ground myself, but sometimes people use items when camping that make other family members happy to come away with them.
So long as people use the bio degradable chemical instead of the old non bio degradable stuff or Nappi San etc, I don't see an issue with digging a hole and emptying it into (but only in a location nobody will ever camp in or be a walk way etc).

why would you empty something daily that is easily transported when on the move each day? A huge waste of chemicals and water to keep emptying daily. Our chemical dunny can last many days without needing emptying, we regularly transport it with partially filled with waste when touring around on the move daily (if we stay somewhere for extended days it gets emptied before leaving if possible). Granted our unit is stored in a side locker completely separated from everything else in our camper, but it's tied into position so it can't move and has never leaked.

Why even have a portaloo, just use one of these while touring.



You can have your choice of any number of water crossings Australia wide for washing up after you've done the deed while on the go.

Ours goes into a large plastic bag, then in its canvas carry bag, and rides in the side locker on the KK. No leaks, no smells, and empty where/when we can. A number of country miles and it's well and truly slurried up.

It's easier to empty when it's soup rather than chunky stew !

Why do you only empty it in dump points. What's wrong with a hole in the middle of no where. I don't use chemicals just nappy sand and yes I know it's a chemical of some sort but not as bad as the toilet stuff you buy specifically for the porta loos. And I only have to dig one hole every 3 days not 50 different ones around different areas. And with 3 girls in the family it is a requirement for night time calls.
