Turner Tribe
« on: March 31, 2015, 09:06:56 PM »
G'day all,

Long time reader on this forum and thought I should finally contribute!
So a bit of background of my tribe, family of 5, misses, 3 kids and myself. The misses and I both grew up camping as kids and we thought it only fair that we continued the tradition with our kids. So once our first born was 6 weeks old we threw him(to be read as placed him gently in his car seat, fastened the well padded seat belts and placed cushions around his neck) into the hilux and headed off to the Cooloola coast for his first camping trip! Needless to say the trip wasn't all smooth sailing with a new born however we endured it and continued to do the same with our next two kids. Best bit of advice we were ever given was that the kids(babies) fit into your lifestyle as they don't know any different!
Alright enough talking for now here's a few progression photos of our camping setups, enjoy.

Pre-baby camping

After baby 2 of the babies were around we found ourselves carting more and more crap so a box trailer was bought to cart all the gear, this didn't stay as a box trailer for long as we opted to buy an Austrack 12' Offroad Tent and wack it on top. The trailer underwent a few minor modifications such as leaf over conversion to allow bigger wheel/tyre combo and a more suitable ride height, a longer drawbar was added with all intentions of fabricating a custom box on it(never eventuated), basic tailgate storage/bench, add a gas bottle holder, storage for the water jerry's and a basic 12v system to run fridge and led lights. Here it is behind current tow rig.

The trailer saw many a great camping trip and some not so great, however it did serve its purpose well but it's fate was doomed after two consecutive trips of pelting rain on the 2nd last days(both trips), leading to wet gear everywhere and having to drag everything out again when we got home to dry.
So it's fate was sealed and the trailer went to a loving family with 2 lil ones, which in turn cleared the side of our house for the new arrival(new to us).....

Thanks for reading and may see you's out there somewhere!

Thanks guys,

Sol, we've only been in townsville 4 years so still exploring. We've been to Fletchers Creek, Bivouac Junction, Big Crystal Creek, Forrest Beach, Rollingstone, Airlie and we are heading up your way for Easter, going to Mission Beach. Townsville is a top place, was born here but spent 24 years on the Gold Coast, moved back here cause the kids are young and its a lot more laid back lifestyle!!!

SOl, we are staying at dunk island view, can't wait only 2 more sleeps.
Wilson79, rollingstone is a great spot, close to home but feels a million miles away while ya there! Big Crystal is a good spot too, last time we were there it was just about full though.

Cheers Cruza, the camper is going great, 4 trips in 2 months of owning it! Unfortunately next trip planned is not until June/July holidays. At least it gives me time to tinker and get a few more mods done, the mods are an addiction in their own. Nothing better than having a few cod ones and looking at trailer thinking mmmmmm whats next!

Fully agree! Best thing about the camper is both using it and improving it.

Enjoy the new swan, looks great.

Cheers Dan
