Oztent Bunker - Evaluation
« on: March 27, 2015, 01:52:31 PM »
Well swaggers, I have been field with work for 2 weeks and thought I would try out the Oztent bunker that I just bought from Drifta and give a field tested evaluation for any swaggers looking to buy one.

I got mine from Drifta as I previously stated, and before taking it on this trip, I had only set it up in my back yard. I found Drifta to be the cheapest by far at $369.

Just to confirm, I did not buy it just for work, I have bought the Bunker for camping as well with SWMBO and our daughter.

Ok so.....

Pro's:
1. Folds up to be about the same size as a standard single swag with bows to support the roof.
2. There is enough room in the bag to put the waterproof cover and a self inflating mattress. (I got one just in case the stretcher was to hard).
3. The whole Bunker is a stretcher, mozzie dome and waterproof cover all in one. No need for individual components.
4. The sides can be rolled up and secured to allow the breeze through.
5. There is three entry points, either side or the bed head.

Con's:
1. During rain, water can pool on the outer cover at the feet end. This can be stopped by securing the tie down cord at the end of the Bunker so that it is secured tightly.
2. Weight may be an issue for some. It is around the weight of a carton of beer.

Any further info required, just ask.

Does it come with a mattress or is just the stretcher padded?  Did you need the extra self inflating mattress?  How comfortable was it?

Thanks

KB, no mattress, just the stretcher. There is something in there, not sure what, but I would call it a mat! I bought the self inflating mattress myself (5cm inflated) and it worked a treat.

Without the mattress, you could survive for maybe a few days, but with the self inflating mattress, I have had no issues for two weeks.

And the 3 piece blow up mattress, at least one tube of which would NEVER stay inflated...   >:(

Only stirring.  ;D
Tell you what, I was always dam jealous of anyone who was meched when we humped in! Best I ever got was a Sord bivvi with a small inflatable mat to replace the fantastic poof mat that was issued  >:D
In saying that, one of those bunkers would have been awesome those couple of times it snowed while we were out  :'(

Just a follow up on this, I bought one too and have similar to report.

Quality is fantastic and setup time is only a couple of minutes at most. I haven't used mine in anger yet but think I'll be throwing in a self inflating mattress, as I can feel the strain on my back in a 5 minute lie down without it. The kids have both had a go sleeping in it and have loved it.

Looking forward to getting away for a boys weekend in the near future and giving it a good test out.
