Waeco CF-50 and its variants?
« on: March 22, 2015, 05:59:25 PM »
Ok, so the back round story - Basically I need to purchase a bigger fridge. I am bound my MSA DS40 drop slide. So there are a limited number of options I have available. In this thread I want to discuss the CF-50 only thanks.

So I have discovered the CF-50 comes in a few variants, I believe they are;

CF-50
CF-50AC
CF-50ACVERB

So the CF-50 seems to be the most current version still for sale at most retailers ATM for 1k (and includes a trans bag) along side the new CFX-50 (which doesn't fit on the DS40).

The other two are older? and can be bought for around $750 at a heap of online shops.

My basic understanding is they are more or less the same expect the compressors are a bit different?

I have been told many different things my many different people and spent more time googling and reading manuals and looking at spec sheets but its still all clear as mud.

Has any one got some solid info on this?

Thanks in advance

I've got a CF50 and wouldn't buy another.  As a fridge its great, but the lid latch is absolute rubbish.  I reckon I've broken about 10 of them, and each time I go back to Waeco (on the Gold Coast) they say they've never seen the problem before...but they always have a heap in a bucket under the counter!
Also check out any CF50 in any store, and you'll see the latch will be broken...its just a poor design.
I'd certainly check out the new CFX fridge tho!!

I've got cf50dz, bought in 2009, never broke a latch.

CF-60 has the same footprint as the CF-50, and I have the CF-60 because of the need to fit into the DS40.  As for the latch, haven't broken one in 10 years of Waeco CF50/60 ownership.

I've got a cf50 I bought in 2003. Still going strong. Replaced the lid once as I broke the hinge pin off and one catch.
Cheers, John.

We run two CF 50's one as a freezer andathe other as a fridge.
We have had them for about 10 years, no problems at all. Lids and clips still intact

Thanks for the feed back on the lids, not too worried about that.

more interested in what the difference is and why the price difference?

I believe the VERB is added to a factory seconds or display models? hence the price tag I guess, how ever its still not clear when you purchase if it in fact a second or a display and what makes its a second?

I have been told a few different stories but cant seem to find the hard facts.

My understanding is the CF-50AC and the CF-50 both have the Danfoss compressor just different versions something to do with efficiency and place of manufacture??? The new CFX-50 has the "new" Waeco compressor which seem to be why they have sold the rights or something and heap of other brands are manufacturing them like ARB, powertech, aldi, and Dobbsons etc.

Has any one got a CF-50AC or a CF-50ACVERB? Have you even looked to see? or have you just assumed it was a CF-50?

Doesn't sound like any one has had a problem with one of these AC's or ACVERB's?

Have you giving weaco themselves a call?  I have always found them helpful, I'm sure they know the difference between them?

I thought the CF-50 was the original model without the AC adaptor built in. The CF-50AC had the AC adaptor built in but a manual control. The CF-50ACVERB has the AC adaptor built in and runs the latest digital control...

pfffft call Waeco... could be onto something haha wish they were open now!

Yeah far as I can see all the CF-50 units are 12/24 or 100 -240 AC well for the Australian market any who. There is a CDF range which is 12/24v only.

VERB is the cheapest of the lot so I don't know why it would have the latest display???

Any who I guess I ll have to make some time to call them tomorrow.

Cheers

And another thing to think about, the 60lt has the same footprint as the 50, just taller I think, may be an option for a bigger fridge

I have a CF50 from maybe 8 or so years ago.
I think D4D has it right.  The current version is basically the same as it has been for quite a few years.
I broke off the bit of the lid that connects to the fridge - but fixed with a lot of superglue and a bit of a reinforcing tab - has been like that for many years without issue.
No problems with the latch itself.

The newer CFX50 looks a bit sturdier though.

Tentworld sell the CF50 for $779.

D4D is correct.

I spoke to WAECO today the CF-50ACVERB is the current model and has been the current model for about 8 years with the danfoss compressor.

The CF-50 was the original with 12/24v only form 19dickity2 then it became the CF-50AC which had the 240v bit built in. It then evolved into the VERB which has been the current model for about 8 years.

so there you go the price difference is purely buying power and low overheads.

So long story short I found the CF-50 with transbag for $750 at a place on the gold coast went to my local BCF after work they price matched it and now  I have a beer fridge next to the computer!

Yeah CF-60 is too tall to fit for me plus I m short and my missus is even shorter its going to be hard enough to reach to bottom of the 50!
