Daydream Island
« on: March 17, 2015, 10:10:50 AM »
Has anyone been on holiday to Daydream Island? We are looking to book there for Jan 2016 and cant find many reviews on "what to do on Daydream" We went to Hamilton Island a couple of years ago and it was magnificent with plenty of shops, activities, nightlife etc. I am just worried Daydream is a poor cousin with not a lot to offer.

G'day,

Our son was married on Daydream last July. We were only there two days and one was taken up with the wedding. There's a few small shops and eateries there but not much on the night life side.

I’ve been to Hamilton but not Daydream, but I was under the impression Daydream is far from the poor cousin but rather the rich cousin who wants a fully catered relaxing holiday.

It kinda is Hammos poor cousin  but it is still pretty damn nice.
I was there probably 2 years ago and hammo last year.
Daydream is still good, has less to do just check their website and it tells you everything that hey offer. It is alot smaller island with Only one resort at daydream and all activities, meals etc are organised through them. The resort itself is starting to look a bit dated.
Hammo has a lot greater range of things todo but if you want to just kick back and relax the on either is a great place to stay.
I would happily holiday at either, but for me it is a quick drive up the road, hop on a ferry and we are there, easy.
January, the weather can be a bit and miss as that is bang in the middle of the wet season( think tropical storms, cyclones) as well as perfect HOT tropical weather and drinking beer in the pool bar weather. And it's also stinger season, so cover up if swimming in the ocean.

Been once, probably won't go again..........not that there was anything really wrong with the place, just that there are nicer places in the world to go......a few extra bucks gets you Thailand ( think 2nd world country instead of 3rd world )

I take it you don't like the place ??

I had friends go there earlier in the year on a cheap deal and they weren't impressed.  They said the actual islands was great, but the resort is tired and they have a monopoly on EVERYTHING.  They found it super expensive for meals and drinks and had no other option but to spend the money.

Easy quick bites to eat for lunch didn't really exist.

They wont be back, and I wont be bothering.

I can understand the negative comments if you paid ALOT of money to get there and ALOT of money again on food, drinks and activities. Luckily for me the getting there cost is minimal compared to others from out of the region, and after the first trip I clued up a bit and when we go take some snacks/food and a few of our own bevvies because as was stated everything is super expensive.
If I wasn't from the area I think I would experience it once and that would be enough but because it is on my doorstep its a great, quick and easy getaway.
As for Bali, its an awesome spot and I love it. Been a few times with the boys and also with the missus and kids. I do believe it is what you make of it, and also be a bit careful what you do and need to know where to and where not to go. (Same as anywhere really)
It's cheap, beautiful country, heaps to do, yummy food and the surf is world class.
It does have its seedy side, but in general its pretty good for a 3rd world country.

We went 2 years ago for our 10th anniversary. Got a local deal and spent 4 nights there. Had a great time, really enjoyed the place, meals, service and activities. We went on jet ski tours, parasailing and various activities around the island. Wife went to the day spa. Spent nearly as much on happy hour as meals.
It was a nice relaxing time. We have spent time on other islands and over seas. I think it compares favourably.
