Well we have just been advised of our new store we will be managing.

This location is going to be a real adventure, somewhere we have never been to and always wanted to explore.

Cannot say where as yet but will shortly.

Looks good, only about 300km from the capital. As you say, should be plenty to explore around there!

I had no idea, but there is something in the picture that gives it away.

And just like that we are heading to Gapuwiyak store tomorrow.

Our role is to assist the Store Managers while the duty mmagers are away for 3 weeks and then the store managers head off on 3weeks holidy and we take over. 6 weeks in total.

Then we should.be heading to darwin for a week, then fly back to Cairns to drive the cruiser to Darwin and then hopefully head to Gunbalanya.

Thats the plan to date.

More small plane flights. At least we get to see Arnhem Land from the air

Hi Mark, It sounds like unreel country up that way to explore, my mate Nathan Dumschat lives at Nulumbuy he looks after 5 o 6 airstrips up the way he just posted on FB that he went to Lake Evella and checked that place out with the airstrip inspector, and he looks after the main road back towards Darwin, I mite be flying up in November to visit him and have a look around for a week or so and go fishing with him, If we are going past I mite drop in and say get day, Craig

Our accomodation at Gapuwiyak is very nice.

We have a 2 bedroom transportable place that has a seperate one bedroom room for visiters.  Good size patio with bbq.

There are 2 identical places where the managers live in the other one.

Over the years we have lived in a 40 foot modified  shipping container, a 2 bedroom duplex, a camper trailer, a 3 bedroom house, a 3 bedroom donga and now this. All the properties come fully furnished.

As the store trades 7 days a week our hours are Wed to Fri 12.00pm to 8.00pm, Sat 9.00am to 6.00pm and Sun 10.00am to 5.00pm. We get Mon and Tues off. The barge comes each Tues and the store has their own truck with trailers.

The shop here is not bad and will get pics later.

G'day Mark

Question for you from something that's just been raised on another forum, thanks.

What language/s are spoken in all the various communities ???

Primarily English / "Pidgin" (not sure if that's the right word for it :-[) but their own "nations" language as well, the other way round or what ???

& will this change, community to community ???

Thanks!

The language does change from locations such as the desert locations and here in Arnhem land. Interesting when we were in Peppimenarti, they spoke their language but with a mixture of English words and we could understsnd it.

Around Arnhem land the lauguage is pretty much the same being Yolngu people. I think most indigenous would be able to understand
most locations though with a few meanings that may be different.

Here at Lake Evella they will chat in their own language and I normally walk past, joke and say what did you call me and they would just laugh.

Update: after releiving at the store in Lake Evella we will be flying out on the 16th Oct to head to Darwin for  few days then fly back to Cairns. We then drive to Gunbalanya where we will be trained up on the store as the old managers head off to another store on the 29th Oct. We have allowed 5 days to get to Gunbalanya. That gives us under a week for the training.

Yes things can change quickly in this line of work. The reason we had to fly urgently to Lake Evella was because one of the original duty managers had a drug problem and was caught with a posted parcel that had crystel meth in it. We flew in and they flew out on the same plane.

We arrived at Gunbalanya last Friday for our stint managing the store here.

I must say the scenery is impressive, especially from our patio. A nice place and you can even drink the special stuff.

Crossing Cahills Crossing was nice and easy being neap tides. Looking forward to fishing there when the tides are up and watch the crocs.
