Mate has asked me to look into these things for a... project :P

This is to cut 6-8mm stuff.

What's good? Whats not good? What do I look for? What questions do I ask...

Laser or Water Jet iscthe better option.
Cleaner cut and better accuracy.
Where are you located.

Stay away from the cheap ones
Can be hard to get consumables for them. Tips and nozzles
You will kill a few tips until you get the hang of it  ;D

Got a cheap one myself to use in the shed to see if I would use one , great for sheet up to 3mm works great 5-6 mm would be at it's upper limits ,cut is not square ,
More than welcome to come around and have a crack , what are you going to use it for

I bought a boc one $1k to cut cars up amongst cutting thick stuff as well, didn't really do well due to paint, rust etc

Haven't used it in over a year, not too impressed with it TBH

I bought a demo saw and with extra long blades I can cut a car in half easily and with less hazard, best tool i have bought in years!

Owned  a CIG one for over ten years and never used it. Are they any good? Generally just revert to a jig saw or other blade device.

Whatever type you end up going with make sure you have a good filter/watertrap on your compressor as they dont like dirty air.
We use Kemppi ones at work mainly but they can be fairly expensive.

Only about 10min to actually cut it in half, more time is spent removing lines, trim etc
