Hi all,


Long time lurker here but first post.

Finally sold our old faithfull 96 Cavalier 9 foot off roader.

Looking for a bit more comfort and much quicker set up these days.

We picked up our new (to us) camper last weekend. 2004 Kimberley Kakadu,not many frills but in excellent condition. Previous owners were pedantic with the maintenance. Paid 17 gorillas but had to drive interstate to pick it up. 

Looking to add hot water for showers and kitchen duties and just wondered what others are finding that works well?

How do units like Colemans instant hot water go or there is another one called country comfort.

Gas fired seems to be the way to go.

or give the search bizzo a go, some like aquacube others have troubles, Colemans hwod seems some are good some are bad ..
The instant gas jobbies [ fleabay types ] seem to be  pretty good,+-  we like ours and it gives a good hot shower .. shower water only no dish washing or tea coffee due to having  ground / creek water used through it ..

sure i've seen another one similar to this on myswag 
also seen a few on flee bay and gum boot
i would take one of these over the coleman / aquacube

Hi Wooly, there are two units for sale in the MySwag showroom both seem to be similar.
SWMBO and i purchased a country comfort unit 2 years ago which is similar to the ones in the Showroom and to date are very happy with it, which included nearly a full month on Moreton Island with 4 of us showering at least once @ day, its not mounted on the CT but i have made a stand for it to go into our shower ensuite tent.
Sure beats boiling water  8)

G'Day Wooly,

We bought a Hotap from Bart at Joolca (look in the Showroom section). Arrived within two days of ordering and only got to set up and try on the Saturday afternoon.

Due to my incompetence I had some problems getting it to work. Gave the Joolca hotline a call at approx 5.30pm (Saturday Afternoon) and left a message thinking no chance of getting it sorted before having to go away. Bart rang me back at 6.00pm talked me through some things to try, rang his service manager then rang me back resulting in me having to bend a battery contact. Took it away over christmas and never missed a beat. Brilliant service in my books.

I've got an Aqua Cube Logic and it hasn't let us down. I now have the shower stand accessory for it now so looking forward to trying it out at Easter.

My unit is a bit bigger than yours, I'm currently installing a Webasto hydraunic diesel heater to
provide hot water and heating, advantage is they use little diesel and as my Prado is a diesel
I have more or less an endless supply of that and don't have to worry about the hot water
chewing up the gas.

We have a Webasto diesel heater in our KK, push of a button and hot water at the kitchen sink or shower in approx 5 minutes.

Is that combo 2d unit. Vaguely thinking about that for my Jayco swan. Not a lot of reviews around. Look forward to hearing your views

Thermotop C, I was after something that wouldn't take up to much storage space, in my Vista
I'm mounting the heater and heat exchanger under the floor, the only cupboard space I loose
is for the header tank and the blower unit. Considering it is doing both hot water and central
heating it takes up very little interior room.

Thanks for all your replies everyone. Some helpful ideas there. We'll start with our old faithfull set up with 12v pump and 20 litre bucket. Just have to wait for the kettle to boil up.

I installed a Helton Hot Water system on my Landcruiser. We really like it. Run the motor for a few minutes and away we go. One of the best things is I don't have to find somewhere to put it to take it away, or store it when we get home, nor worry about having gas canisters. In all fairness, my mate's HWOD is a miser on gas - he gets heaps of use out of a cartridge. My cruiser has under tray toolboxes, so the hoses go in there when not being used. I really recommend it. A little bit pricier than a HWOD, though, but it works well for our circumstances.

We have the Coleman HWOD.
Have had it about 5 years now without any problems.

That's all we do now after struggling with a HWOD system that has always let us down. Now we have a Primus 12V shower pump/shower unit ($20 from ALDI) and a 20L drum. Simple, light, reliable and cheap.
