latest supercheap catalogue has cheap firepits and butane heaters
flat pack firepits $25 not sure how good they are but its not a massive outlay to find out.
Picked one of these up & finally got a chance to try it out last weekend.
The instructions only refer to charcoal & heat beads, but we used it with real timber & it worked really well. Very light gauge metal & so it warped a bit, but still perfectly usable. No ash or rubbish left on the ground afterwards, except for a very small amount which fell out of the hand-grip holes.
Not only a nice fire, but comes with a cooking grill that also makes a pretty darn good toaster - much quicker than 1 slice at a time over the gas burner, when you want 8 slices for brekky!
(& let's the 2 boys help with cooking breakfast!
)
&, as a special bonus, it's even portable, while still burning! Bit of a strong breeze had come up this way, so we moved round the end of the tent & out of the wind - night before, we'd moved round the end & sat under the tent flap with the fire out the front, then moved it back round the front an hour later when the drizzly rain stopped
Currently $35, so if it's only going to be used every once in a while, I reckon they're worth it.
